my wife's family is all in the braintree-marshfield area. we go up a bunch for the holidays. is it worth buying a day pass and fighting the holiday crowds there? would be cool just to get another area under the belt.

Last year was my first year skiing there, and the only holiday I skied on was Christmas Eve. The traffic wasn't too bad at all. It is a fun place for some quick turns after work. They opened up whatever they could last year which offered some different terrain.

Accounting, huh? that's not a good career for a skier/boarder, with corporate and personal tax returns due at/near season's end is it? I like the work-on-Saturdays gig, if you can get Monday off instead ;)

It is terrible because I work 6-7 days a week. I get a lot of Dec & early Jan. time in. I do a number of nights, and every almost every Sunday. I got in 30+ days in last year (I could 8 runs as a day).

The terrain itself. Very Okemo/Stratton like. Not really the stuff I go out to Utah for. Their snowfall is also quite a bit less than BCC and LCC.

I love the city itself though, especially during Sundance. Great vibe in Park City itself. I just don't like the ski area. Sorry if I offended anyone with my post. Not the intent.

You have obviously never skied Jupiter. I don't care for much of the place but it has an awful lot of acres that have the big snow microclimate and interesting terrain. The Canyons is the same way. 9990 gets a lot of snow and has a real big mountain feel to it. Much of the rest of the place is meh.

Don't tell me where I have and haven't skied!! How would you know the first thing about me and where I've skied? Your know-it-all attitude can really be trying sometimes Geoff.

I skied Jupiter Bowl. I skied McConkeys. It's average at best. I skied all over that place. I don't care for the ski area. It's an intermediate area at best with intermediate terrain and subpar snowfall for Utah.

I do. I liked my free visit in 2007. I was impressed with the place...for all the bad you hear about it, I can't knock it.

In all honesty, I never skied it, but did stop by one day to check it out and just didn't like the vibe. Too commercial for my liking.

I would never have gone after reading about the vibe and the people etc.

I went last March with one of my race team pals (mid-week) and we had a ball. We stayed over to teh skiers right on the summit most of the day...aside from a few adventures elsewhere (where I found terrain my wife would love).

I'm going back...in Mar, mid-week.

I skied Stratton a lot when I was younger. I always ejoyed going there. Yes, it's a more "upscale" crowd than say Mt. Snow...but it's a fun place to ski IMHO. Plus, it's still doable for a day trip from where we live in CT.

Well, I skipped the shopping mall at the base and focused on the terrain. Lifts are A-1. Snowmaking and grooming were great as well. The terrain is not overly challenging in places, but the variety was good and the service was good as well. Facilities were clean and nice. I did not hit a "bad" trail all day...and it is HUGE. The fast lifts meant that I could cover A LOT of terrain in a short amount of time. I wish that the Snow Bowl had a faster lift...that terrain is nice. Kidderbrook has one hell of a runout, but that terrain back there is pretty wild as well...

I think that you just need to understand that you are probably not going to be powder skiing or doing anything wild at Stratton. It just is not that kind of place...and they know that.

Hey, they call it that for a reason.
Well, Stratton is a great mtn to learn to ski on and if you are a terminal intermediate looking to take some lessons to help you step it up to the next level.
They have great features in their parks, the race course is fun and real easy to dial in!
Mid week the place is empty, and you can crank out some sweet GC/SG type turns.
After a dump the trees are fantistico!
but other than that Stratton is a real snoozer!
The place can be fun if ya get a FREE ticket,.
Remember, this quote."If it is Free, Then it is for ME"!!!

seems to be pretty hip to bash on the Strattons/Okemos of the skiworld around here. seem to have replaced Hunter as the place to throw potshots at to gain points

granted, the terrain at either place is nothing to get excited about. however, their service, lifts and amenities are all top notch. while i can;t say i;ve ever had a really thrilling day due to the challenging terrain at either resort, I can;t say that I;ve ever had a really terrible day either because the service was pretty good.

plus, is there any place that;s terrible when you get good snow?
