Drove up to Warren to ski with an old friend yesterday . I was apprehensive about conditions...but I wound up pleasantly surprised!
Started of the Gate House Quad with a warm up run down HotShot/Waterfall - nicely groomed cruiser. After this, moved up to the North Lynx Triple for a bunch of runs down Birch Run, Morning Star, and Sunrise. All great--even the bumps in Morning Star were nice and soft on the tops...a bit of ice between the troughs, but plenty of edge-able snow on the tops of the bumps.
After a lunch break we headed to the Super Bravo Express, from which we skied Snowball to Spring Fling and then Moonshine a few times…I was struck by the difference in trail ratings between Sugarbush and Mt Snow here…Moonshine was narrow, windy, and packed full of big (for me) bumps and is a Blue trail. It is definitely more difficult than many Blacks at Mt. Snow. Again on Moonshine some rocks and ice here and there between bumps, but overall in very good skiing condition. Finished a great day on Jester and Domino.
It was a funny day in that conditions were pretty sketchy, really, some rocks, ices and grass coming through in many of the trails we skied, but we had a GREAT time!. I was especially pleased to find bump trails at just the right “learning level” for me.
