SRO is correct. The current Poma Alpha Series Double was installed in 2001 BY SUMMIT VENTURES to replace the old double.

I am definetely pro anything but ASC... and I like the new management.

But I am well aware of when the lift was replaced and who owned the mountain when it was done. I went to school in the valley for 4 years and skied at Sugarbush every single day it was open practically. I remember the bumper stickers. I also know the original Castlerock double was condemned prior to Fall of 2001 when Summit Ventures took over and the ASC had plans to replace this lift with something else. It is my understanding that the High-Speed quad idea ended when their pockets went dry in the 90's. Summit Ventures effectively carried through with plans on book... unless of course Win can offer different info, then I will humbly listen : )

I wouldn't doubt it! They owned the mountain.... my point was that although they did purchase and install it, it was to be done anyway, and not by a HSQ..... guess it isn't worth debating the issue, the experience was preserved, and that's all that matters right!?

Ok, ok... so I got a little worked up. I just like my fireplaces

I agree, there is great value in retaining something of the past which has made Sugarbush what it is today (in addition to its great terrain). (As an example, I recently stayed at the Mountain View Grand Hotel in NH, which was once one of the big grand hotels of the region. While the exterior facade is the same, the interior feels very sterile, since it was literally gutted & remodeled.) Lets only improve the things about the Bush that need them. The old North Lodge is still warm and welcoming. It's especially nice that you can still get a beer, have some food, see the hill, and have a fire. And lets not forget about the deck!

So, it sounds to me like we were all actually saying the same thing, just worded differently. Yes, there were plans for an HSQ early in ASC days. It failed because ASC's business practices left much to be desired. Plans came later to put in a new double. Summit Ventures bought Sugarbush. SV put in the new lift with the same specs as the old. Ya da dat da dah.
