WARREN, Vermont — Want to help set a new world record and be a part of a good cause? On Saturday February 12th Sugarbush Resort in Warren, VT will be the only resort in the Northeast to take part in a national fundraising effort to combat Multiple Sclerosis.
The Jimmie Heuga Vertical Express, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, will draw skiers and riders from around the country to 22 resorts nationwide in an attempt to set two new world records: the first, for the largest on-snow fundraising event; the second, at Vail, CO, for the most vertical feet on snow in one day. And at Sugarbush, skiers and riders will be asked to contribute to the cause by doing...you know...a little something different. Namely, racing in wedding apparel.
Sugarbush has partnered with the Heuga Center to make the Resort's annual Valentine's race the Jimmie Heuga Race for the Roses and each person who competes in a tuxedo, wedding dress or bridesmaid dress will have two seconds shaved from their time.
Teams will consist of two people that will compete against other couples in a NASTAR-style course. The couple that appears most "in love" will win the grand prize of a night at the Pitcher Inn. Other prizes, such as an Alta Day spa treatment, camping getaways and a dinner for two at the Grill, will be awarded in each category for the fastest combined time. The $50 entry fee per couple will be tallied as part of the national challenge to set a new world record and all proceeds will go to help the Heuga Center improve the lives of people living with MS.
"Combining the Heuga challenge with our annual Valentine's race was a no-brainer," remarked Doug Lewis, Sugarbush's Race Ambassador who, along with his wife Kelley, helped organize the event. "The Race for the Roses draws people out to the hill so tying it in with the fundraising component of the nationwide event will allow a lot of people in New England the opportunity to be a part of something special."
Teams wanting to register before February 12th can call 802-583-6306 or visit www.sugarbush.com. Race-day registration will be from 8-9:30 AM in the race tent at the Lincoln Peak base area. Every racer will receive a T-shirt, raffle ticket and goodie bag just for entering.
