Last season I skied Stowe 6 days and Sugarbush 2 days..a pretty much perfect ratio for me..so I guess Stowe is three times better..lol

I can't compare SB/MRG to Stowe/Smuggs because I have yet to ski Stowe/Smuggs. But I'm happy to share a few photos of our Valley skiing (from sugarbush.com):

Stowe + Smuggler?

I'm missing something here. Isn't there 1 hr+ distance between Stowe and Smug?

Unless they re-started the practice of honoring each others ticket so you can ski over...?

It's my understanding they don't get along, which is why the top is closed. I ski Smugglers for variety.

It's basically the same relationship between MRG and the Bush. If you were spending time at Stowe and wanted to ski smuggs for a day, you can make it thru the notch faster then you could drive around. Or, if you were at Stowe and wanted to ski something at Smuggs, you could walk over in 15 minutes from the top of spruce. At the bottom you could walk to the top of the notch road in 15 minutes and ski back to stowe in 10 minutes. By ski, they are more connected the MRG/Bush.

What he said---or I would think the green budpass would still work

I can't believe you've never skiied Stowe?!?!?!? I guess as a bumper, there's really no need. Have you ever gone for a hike in the notch mid winter?

Love both mountains, but Stowe just gives me a warm feeling inside for some reason. Maybe it's the bigger mountain feel or just looking at the jagged notch.
For some reason too, it just seemed to be that Sugarbush bumped up a lot more... or at least had a bigger number of bump trails. It's fine if that's your thing for the whole day, but when I'm doing bumps I'm usually "in" the bumps, not really on the mountain.
Don't know... both mountains have a lot in and outbounds but I just like Stowe's feel more and with the ease of slackcountry accessibility... well, you really can't beat the amount of excellent slack you can get in there.

I think this is a shill-lacking. Everyone but the team sugarbush pretty much feel the notch rocks the valley.

Nope. I'm pretty tied up all winter, but I'm going to try to get a day in at Stowe this year. From all of the pix and reports I've read, it looks like a great mountain. But for bumps, it doesn't look like it could hold a candle. Just different skiing, I suppose. But I definitely want to get there and give it a try this year. Actually, I'm in the town of Stowe for various things at least 3 or 4 times a month, but it's usually for something specific and I can't get over to the hill. One of these days......... it's only about an hour's drive to the mountain.

Here's the thing: when you live 5 minutes from MRG, 5 minutes from Mt. Ellen, and 10 minutes from Lincoln Peak, AND you can ski all three for free........ it's hard to convince yourself to actually drive anywhere else :D

How do you ski for free?

Prior to skiing Stowe for the first time in 1995, all I cared about was skiing bumps 90% of the time. I vividly remember skiing down Chin Clip on some great bumps with a local until he dodged left out to the bench. I thought it was just a little quick shot through the woods and we return to the awesome bumps on Chin Clip, until we traversed and traversed and traversed to the very beginning portion of the incredible terrain in the Notch.

I don't think I purposely sought out bumps the rest of that winter.

I never said either was superior, just comparable. JD, you seem to be the one who needs a clear pecking order and keep putting Sugarbush up against other resorts to find somebody who agrees with your view.

If I'm a shill, then what are you?

John

p.s. Just got down from Heaven's Gate. From what it looked like this morning, I never thought we'd ski dry powder today. But we did. The top of Ripcord and OG were firm underneath, but down lower was buttery. Lower Paradise was soft and quiet. Non-stoppers with Egan, Lisle, Diggity and Teddy were wicked fun!

I'm just honest.
Just making conversation about how some Mtns compare to eachother.....I don't really give a crap.
I don't have a pass, or any association with any Mtn. I go where the snow is good and untracked. How about you? Any association professionally with Sugarbush? Any free passes for you summer or winter?
