I thought it was well known that Atkinson is employed by Sugarbush

Only if you hang here regularly. This forum has 250 active posters, and about 1350 active lurkers. Plus you get newbies that read back threads years later.

In the spirit of full disclosure, it would be worth considering a badge on the avatar (like Greg does with marketing reps) indicating such. While this may be a discussion group it's a perpetual, searchable archive of issues old and new...

Not really when you think about it. Before JD there was even less play. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that there are not a lot of Stowe skiing C.L.I.T.S. Those guys have along way to travel; they know they love the MRV so that’s where they go, and who can blame them?

Since the C.L.I.T.S. are the most numerous and vocal group on the board it just makes sense that since they haven’t skied Stowe it doesn’t get much play here.

For example, did anyone outside of Connecticut every hear of Ski Sundown before frequenting this forum? Dang, I even know the names of some of the trails now.

I like C.L.I.T.S. so don’t take it as C.L.I.T.S. bashing, it’s just my opinion why Stowe/Smuggs doesn’t get much play here compared to MRV.

could you PLEASE tell me what CLITS mean?

I don't think it's necessary to have all mountain employees identify themselves as such when adding input to a discussion. Biases are the result of many things. Just because Sugarbush might pay BMM's or Atkinson's bills, doesn't necessarily mean that they are any more biased than say someone like me who is a Stowe fan, but lives a couple hundred miles away and skis there very infrequently. I'm sure in some situations, the love for a particular mountain pre-dates employment, i.e.; they choose to work there because they love to ski there as opposed to they ski there because they love to work there.

I've never been to Stowe, but I took a look at Stowe's interactive trail map and it looks like the only things officially open are blues and greens. Meanwhile all the good stuff at Lincoln Peak is open. What's up with that?

Even tho I went to college in southern Vermont(1969-1974) we skied somewhere almost every weekend. As you can imagine for day trips we did MV, Mt Snow, Haystack, Magic and kmart. Never tried Stratton, skied Okemo a couple of times. For weekend trips we did the Bush, Stowe and Smuggs(buddy's father had summer camp just north of Montpelier, if was free but pretty close to winter camping but inside). Special weekend trips were to Jay, the walls of snow on the access rd....unreal. The only place that I remember at that time that featured tree/glade skiing. It was awesome.

When your on a trail, in the trees, in powder, on a groomed cruiser, in the bumps, whatever. just having another great day of skiing/riding, Does it really matter what resort your at. We all have very diferent personal preferences whether it's the skiing/riding, what car we like or what brand of beer we prefer.

It's all great skiing, these threads about what folks think about the best skis or the best resorts are greatly flawed from the get go. If you want to fight for what you think properly answers that question, that's cool, I respect that.

They are all opinions, to try to flame/insult/demean posters about the sources of those opinions is pathetic. All these Sugarbush threads versus whatever is below that IMHO. Nothing very positive comes from them. If you haven't been to the resorts being compared you shouldn't be posting anything but perhaps asking some questions, reading and learning, then go there. Interjecting some humor tho is always welcome IMHO

Don't get me wrong, these threads are not all bad.... the pics in a few of these threads are awesome. John's shot of a Sugarbusher skiing Stowe is breathtaking.

From my half-a-dozen or so times at Stowe, I have the impression that Stowe is much less willing to open trails in less-than-ideal conditions. Also, the tops of the Front Four seem to very easily get wind-scoured and icy. I've actually never been there with the tops of Goat or Starr open (though I once skied Starr anyways and thought it was fine..one of my 3 poaching experiences--the other that day was lower Goat, which was also fine).

Stowe + Smuggler?

I'm missing something here. Isn't there 1 hr+ distance between Stowe and Smug?

Unless they re-started the practice of honoring each others ticket so you can ski over...?

I can't vote because I still have never skied Mt Ellen but the destruction of the Smuggs/Stowe interconnect drives me crazy. Comparing these two great ski regions is really kind of silly and like comparing Aspen and Vail. They're both great and blessed with probably the best snow in the northeast.

Stowe isn't as liberal as The Bush about opening up natural snow trails..Stowe mainly blows snow on Blues and Greens early season because they are easier to cover..both Centerline and Hayride are open now and they are single blacks..when I was at Stowe a week and a half ago..all the best terrain was reserved..
