I have never experienced so many different conditions at Sugarloaf in one week of skiing.
Monday 2/7 was a day like mid-april with 54F at the base and 40's at the summit with sunshine and no wind. The snow was great and the liftlines were non-existent.
Tuesday 2/8 had rain with 2" of snow above 3000' and soft spring snow below that.
Wednesday 2/9 was a typical New England day after a rain with firm granular conditions and semi packed powder up above the Superquad and soft spring snow again below that point.
Thursday 2/10 was a powder day with 12" of new snow by the time I quit skiing at 3:15 with great powder and first tracks on Boomauger and Stubs glade.
Friday 2/11 was the best day that I have ever had at Sugarloaf in 16 years with 22-24" of total snowfall and knee deep powder at many spots on the mountain. The wind was quite high and only the Superquad, Double Runner and the #3 T-bar running, but that was good enough to access most of the mountain. The snow on Windrow was past my knees and the glades were fantastic. Bubblecuffer and Winters Way had feather light snow and soft bumps from top to bottom.
Today we skied at Saddleback in the morning and then went snowmobiling in the afternoon. Sugarloaf was a mob sceen today with cars parked along mountain road down to condo check in and we went out of our way to avoid that. Saddleback was very UNCROWDED with at best a 3-4 minute wait for any lift.
We did ski last weekend 2/5-2/6 and I will report on that as well as Saddleback when I get home on tuesday.
