Resort or Ski Area: Sugarloaf
Conditions: PP
Trip Report: Third day at Sugarloaf this year. Best conditions by far. They have a lot of snow below the treeline.
Got some early runs on Tote Road, Spurline, Narrow Gauge, Spillway, Sluice and Ramdown. All in real good shape in the AM.
Mostly stuck to the Superquad side of the mountain after lunch. Timberline got off wind hold and we were able to get to the top a couple of times to take Tote Road Extension down. The snow was pretty frozen up there, but you could still get a good edge in. Got a couple of Scoot and Windrow runs in too.
We took a Kings Landing run. That is a hard blue! It would of helped skiing it earlier in the day. The sun was going down and the whole trial was in the shade. I couldn't see a thing in the snow. It all looked gray. Needless to say I was thrashing down over skiied off sections and bumps but we made it down.
Crowds were manageable. Whiffletree was insane around 10AM. Superquad was pretty packed AM too. But it cleared out in the afternoon and the last 3 hours of the day was wide open. Still pretty darn windy. Temps were in the teens - twenties but it was blowing a gale still.
Best part of the day was when we were at the top of the Mountain and my 8 year old son said "Lets take Tote Road to the Bottom". He did so and didn't stop once. My legs were burning by the time we got to the bottom. That is a long non-stop run!
