Area skied: Sugarloaf

Dates skied: April 13th, 14th, and 15th, 2007

Surface conditions: powder, loose snow, mank

Weather: cloudy, windy at times, 20s-30s. A foot+ of heavy snow fell overnight Thursday.

Friday morning we started by taking DR to Spillway and joining the crowd of powder hounds scoping everything off the Spillway x-cut. We dropped into White Nitro, something like 2nd/3rd tracks on the trail, deep heavy powder with some knee deep. Lapped Spillway, getting more freshies on Winter's Way and Powder Keg. Realized when people came in from above us that Timberline was running, so we headed there. At the top of the lift saw that the backside was open, so we hiked up. We were in a cloud, so we didn't really know where we were going, but we found lots of untracked windblown snow up here with the occasional scrub tree or rock sticking out. Looped back around and did Cant Dog, then worked our way back across to do it again. On Misery Whip after our second trip out back, got a call from friends and went to meet them at Bullwinkle's.

After lunch we hung out with our friends and took it a bit easier. At one point I accidentally dropped into a glade I had never seen before. It was sweet. Ended the day doing Gondola Line Extension - Bubblecuffer - Rookie River and meeting my friends in the lodge, legs burning.

Saturday was probably the most crowded day of the year. All the lifts had long lines at times. We headed to the woods, which were mostly tracked, soft bumps with occasional powder stashes. Met friends for a nice picnic. Did more woods in the afternoon, then finished with a run down the front face, through Cant Hook, then back up for another trip around back. We went straight from the summit to the end of the condo runout, stopping only to listen to reggae for a minute.

Sunday we did a few runs and could quickly tell that our legs were beat and conditions weren't quite as good as the previous two days. We got a bit glum realizing that this was our last day at the Loaf this year. We did a run down Double Bitter, got a last pint at the Bag and headed out.

Unbelievable skiing at the Loaf this weekend.

Think we hit the same "unnamed" glades that you did Friday on Saturday... We exited the woods just above the Timberline quad.

Pretty much avoided the Reggae crowd and ripped it up.

Yep
A buddy and I were there saturday. We drove up friday night and crashed @ my cousin's place in brunswick, then got our azzes up early and drove the rest of the way...We were booted up and on the hill by 830.

Warm up run on tote road was just sick. Ignoring the slow signs and letting my RX8s run.
Kings Landing and Hayburner were already getting gloppy and bumped up soon afterwards. After spending most of the morning skiing off the quad, we ventured over to king pine and whiffletree. My buddy snowboards and was getting really pissed after a long traverse through the woods after getting off the short side double runner chair. We soon went back over to the t bar. Someone I know - not me - caught an edge while riding the T bar and ended up in the woods - in chest high snow haha.

Timberline quad was where it was at for me. The snow up there was so much better (read: lighter, more like real winter pow). We took a look at the backside, but ended up not doing it. I could ski off the timberline chair all day. We called it a day around 3:30, grabbed coffee...and drove 300+ miles straight home to S. RI. I thought about finding a place to stay in Farmington or something so we could hit saddleback for free skiing on sunday...but 'real life' insisted I do otherwise.

I saw this one heavyset guy in a corey dillon jersey and long jester hat + CB jacket absolutely bombing down chicken pitch at the end of the day. It was awesome. He stunk of booze as he went by.

It was amazing how everything above the lower double was bumped up after noon on Saturday.

Heard some interesting stories Sunday morning about the Fest. One woman had a young drunken guy knocking on her door insisting he was supposed to stay there that night. Security had to come to this woman's house and remove him. Flipside, a patroller said that it was pretty uneventful as there were only a few equipment issues and a few others in over their heads (see mogul statement above).

GREAT skiing period and Sunday morning was nice to relax on the groomers. Just had to stay below the clouds as visibility up there was miserable.
