Resort or Ski Area: Mt. Sunapee

Conditions: Loose Granular, Frozen Granular, no crowds or lines, cloudy, temps in 30s

Trip Report: Good day of skiing in at Sunapee. Conditions made me think more of early December than early January but it was good to get out.

There were 3 ways down from the summit chair and two+ ways down from the sunbowl. Conditions on the sunbowl trails were frozen granular, carvable for those with good skills and sharp edges but the rest of us scraped our way down. Quite easy to build up a lot of speed.

From the summit there were three ways down...Ridge, Blastoff, and Skyway Ledges/Westside/Chipmunk. Each way was hardpack to loose granular, with some areas looser (and more challenging) than others. Blastoff had some icy bits on the steeper sections.

No lines just about all of the time.

We didn't go over to North Peak (there was a race on Lynx) but I had a quick look up Flying Goose and didn't see any bumps.

They were blowing snow under the summit HSQ later in the morning. With any hope they will be able to open up a few more trails for MLK weekend.

wow

the fact that there were no lines at Sunapee on a Sunday is really telling how few people are getting out there given the lack of winter weather.

glad you had a good time and didn't have to deal with the crowds though :)

Sounds like similar conditions at Ragged but you make it sound a bit better. I keep telling myself I'm gonna get over there one of these days.

Thanks for the report hammer. It will be nice when they can get the runs under the HSQ open. Bit of a negative psychological affect getting on the lift and going right over all the brown .
