I went up to Sunapee again yesterday to get Ms. Trailboss' photo taken. I called and they said that they WERE open for photos because of the ski swap. So we made the short drive.

As opposed to my visit on Friday, it was clear from the distance that there had been snowmaking on Skyway and Blast Off, which I had been told was the normal drill.

We stepped in, checked out the sale (some good boots, but that was it...otherwise lots of junk though we were late), got the photo taken and checked my pass to be sure it scanned properly, before taking a short walk around the base area. Staff were checking in to get coats and training.

Snowmaking crews were working on an air compressor it sounded like. Snow was made with fan guns at the HSQ base and tripod guns were in place from there up to Blast Off. Good start. Snow was not melting and the wind was cold...So it appeared that the crews were working on the skier's right of the HSQ getting that route ready and may have another route off the top to connect to that.

Great start...no updates on the site right now...but they are getting there.

Any observations about Cannon?

I am still surprised that they did not start late Thursday night considering that it was cold...but I was told by the rep that they were having some problems and had to make some last minute repairs.

Maybe you should change the title to "WAS In Progress". It's 50 degrees outside. :p

Hopefully EVERYONE is making snow Tuesday Night. Of course, Burke and Beast will wait forever, but most should start this week if they haven't already.

I would not go quite this far for Burke. Last year they had another late scheduled start and they were making snow on Thanksgiving...I saw it myself.

This season IS complicated by the fact that there is A LOT of construction going on up there with the new HSQ and snowmaking. Wish they would update the site with pics of the work as of late

i would wager half the ski areas in new england don't blow snow until after thanksgiving. thanksgiving openings are generally seen from the larger resorts. many many ski areas don't blow snow until december. why roll the dice if you scheduled opening is still three weeks away?

Sunapee rep at the SNow Expo said they were looking at first week of December to open because they haven't been able to blow consistent snow.

It's gonna come down to how much snow they blew this weekend and how much snow they get this week.

It seemed as if Triple Peaks have not been as "excited" about operating Sunapee after the rejection of the expansion plan. I can't help but feel that they are kind of lame-ducking it right now...but they do have 13 more years left on the lease....

Hopefully they will continue to treat their smallest mountain with respect. They are very popular on weekends, have discount days during the week and their proximity to Boston is excellent.

Really would have helped if they got the green light on expansion though...

Regardless, I'll be picking up my pass Friday and hopefully will get some runs in.

Also... Talked to Sunapee people at the show on Staurday and they were all upbeat with the season fast approaching.

Though the people at their shared large booth of any authority seemed to schmoozy with the Okemo people. Maybe hoping to make a lateral move? Leaving a sinking ship? Stay tuned and find out how it all unfolds...

Hopefully little 'ole Sunapee will continue to please with well groomed cruisers at a close distance for some years to come...

Sunapee looked good from 89 South today. They're well on there way.

I hate what's happened to the ski industry.

Consolidation = Collusion :angry:

You can't get thea' from he'ah. If you're in North Conway now, better to go to Bretton Woods or Sunday River...wait...am I nuts? I mean Sunday River

Sunapee would be directly down 93 and over Route 4 W and down 89 to Sunapee...you're looking at 2-2.5 hours...especially in snow covered roads. One run is open.

Well, unfortunately they only had two trails today.

But it's still better than doing almost anything else!!!

Plus, had to pick up my pass anyway...
