Resort or Ski Area: Sunday River
Conditions: PP, Hard pack, LFGR, Icy and Bare Spots
Trip Report:
Trails: 39
lifts: 8
A partly sunny day in which conditions could be best described as variable with hard pack..
5 of 8 peaks had fall line trails open and that was 90% man made snow so impressive outing by the snowmaking team at Sunday River. Best conditions were on Spruce Peak on American Express and Risky Business: AmEx to the right and Risky Business to the left of the triple peak. Next Door to Spruce on Barker Mountain, you had Lazy River in decent shape and Right stuff with a good bit of icy spots but generally side to side coverage. Locke Mountain had closures for racing but they were letting you go down Upper Sunday Punch and then cross over on Ecstasy over Cascades into Jibe and Wildfire. White Cap was open but I ventured back towards Spruce Peak.
Generally conditions were the best in the East and while Cannon has great snowmaking it could not compare to the River. Barker was way better Apres Ski than Foggy Google which was virtually deserted all day.
The Chondola and the lift system at Sunday River really are well thought out and the chairs are all in great shape.
By 2:00PM the sun was setting behind the mountain and conditions started to get mushy as temps were pretty high in advance of the evening to Fridays storm.

Hint: Anyone bitching about lift ticket prices, buy a Descente ski jacket if there a
re any available with the ski passport. This was a huge score at Frostys ski shop where I got a great Descente jacket for $240 that includes over 40 lift tickets good at resorts including Sunday River, Bretton Woods, The Canyons and many others leading to a total score. So far the jacket has now cost me $240-$118 so $122 bucks and its only December.
