Date(s) Skied: Sunday 02/06/2011
Resort or Ski Area: Sunday River
Conditions: Powder with thin ice crust, packed powder
Trip Report:
A couple of friends had landed 2-for-1 passes so we ignored the fact that a little freezing rain had hit the night before and made the trip up. Arrived a bit late and parked at Whitecap. We didn't find much in the way of untouched cord so I can't comment on whether that was icy or not, but where the snow had been busted up by other skiers it was nice and edgable. We headed straight for the glades assuming that the rain would have had minimal impact here but this was not the case. Busting up the icy crust was tough work but there was pleny of soft snow underneath. Spent the rest of the morning at Jordan riding the glade off Lollapalooza and Rogue Angel which was left ungroomed. By mid-day most of the icy stuff had been broken up and the glades were skiing nicely. I think once the groomers hit it and mother nature freshens up the glades, conditions will be epic.
