5-6 hours, maybe I am driving too fast. We are south of Providence and we pick the kids up at school at 2 on Friday and I am at my house with drink in hand at 6- barring any major accidents. If we leave at 12-...it is a sub 4 hour trip. 240 miles door to door. The worst ride I have ever had and we have done this more times than I can count is 6 hours and that was in a blizzard and a dog with some bathroom issues.

I leave bost at 3 on Friday's stop in Nashua 1.15 min ride. and leave Nashua by 5.30 or 6 and it takes 3 hours from there. That is a long day. I would suggest staying in gorham for the long distance riders. Drive up Sat am and ski and the stay in gorham NH after. lots of cheap places. (only if money is the issue. ) Before I owned i did that frequently.
187 miles Nashua to the river door to door for me.

It's a better deal than Powdr's Killington pass that's for sure.

I like that they offered discounts and free ticketsd to their Western resorts. That is a real nice perk.

Sign me up for 2 silver passes at least...may take a western trip to SLC or maybe Big Sky...if we do, I may end up with a gold. Looks like Boyne has offered up the best pass deal for the former ASC resorts...and IMO the two best eastern resorts ASC had. That's the deal we were hoping for! They're already talking about opening SR back up for mountain biking too...so far I'm glad it was Boyne who bought SR and SL and not some of the other players.

JimG and Threecy...now we'll have a better chance to evaluate the impact of discounted passes and their affect on resort profitability. Obviously the folks at Boyne think its a decent biz model...and they've got a long history as resort operators.

It's a great deal to the demographic they're playing to, the skiers within 3-4 hours of those resorts.

That's not the same demographic POWDR is working with. Those folks (alot of NY/NJ skiers) will not double their drive times each way to buy those passes, at least not en masse. Double your travel expenses each weekend and it's not as great a deal in the end.

I'll spend $700 on my season pass to Hunter this year. I live an hour and 15 minutes away; as much as I'd love to ski bigger and better areas like Sugarloaf, I'm not seeing a deal for me there if I have to increase just my travel expenses 5 fold, not to mention I'd have to buy/rent a place to stay the weekend instead of simply going home.

In that scenario, the $700 pass is a far better deal for me.

Look at the forest folks, not specific trees.

JimG and Threecy...

We're marked men dude.

Thinking of painting my skis black so nobody knows they're mine this season; I can see me double ejecting in the bumps because someone turned the binders down while I was eating lunch.

P.S.: don't bother looking for black skis, that's the last color I would paint them.

Jim just buy a place and join us.

I fit your description well. A little over 3 hours. I doubled my travel... glad to do it.(fam is like dad when are we going to be there. only another 1.5 hours kids.:p

Jim they can survive with the demographic they have, but my region is closer to K than Sunday River. I bet some boston folks are going to Maine know not K. for instance Snow monster.

Oh Bob, that would be no fun...we'd have nothing to discuss.

I have no doubt they'll lose some of the MA/VT/NH business.

I'm a long term/show me the money kind of guy. Honestly, all I care about is the snow; and when I drive 5-7 hours to visit VT/NH/ME, I damned well expect it to be special. I'm not unrealistic, and it doesn't necessarily mean powder, but that's what I want. Special. And I'm flexible about what that means. And I figure I can get it in alot of places.

Snow questions cannot be addressed today. So, unfortunately for many I guess, I can talk about it until it is show me time.

I won't drive 5 to 7 hours to ski. Well i did to ski MT ST. Anne, but that was a vacation. I look at going to the mountain as an every weekend, every free time, every vacation... every...
It needs to be easy to do it alot. You work at it more than I do.

I think we could find something to debate.;-)

Did somebody say Snowmonster?

Yeah, decided to make Sunday River my home mountain next season. The drive from Boston to either Killington or Sunday River is just about the same (3 to 3.5 hours). Killington was my go-to mountain early in the season. Then we tried out Sunday River sometime in January. Li'l Snowmonster liked the place and it was a struggle to get her to Killington after that. I think the crowding on certain trails and the occasional run-ins with folks skiing/boarding out of control took its toll on her. Personally, I was impressed by the vastness of Sunday River and how you could basically ski alone on Aurora even when South Ridge was packed. Of course, meeting up with kindred spirits up there was definitely key (raise a glass to BobR, Thaller and the meet-and-greeters). There's a New England-y vibe to the place that I found comforting.

I actually like the drive to K better. There's a diner in Queechee that I love going to on the way up. Good food, great friendly service. Had a real rapport going with the waitstaff who treated me like an old friend. I'm going to miss that place. Anyway, I'll probably visit Killington/Pico at least once next season -- perhaps to ski with Andyzee, trailboss and the Vermont/NY/NJ AZ'ers. I would like to see how those places do under the new owners.

I can see how getting to Maine will be tough for folks from NJ and NYC. You're basically looking at a 4.5 to 5 hour trip one way. That's not a day trip. That's a commitment!

So, for me next season, it's goodbye Access Road and goombays. Hello barbecues in the parking lot and Barbecue Bob's pulled pork and hot links!

Hunter for me is as easy as pie...you were an hour and 15 minutes from my house when you were there. I commute almost as much to work each day.

My long drives are for the same reason you mentioned...vacation.

I can debate pretty much anything.

I wish that Sunday River was closer for me. A real nice place...great vibe. No real bad experiences there at all...a visit this season is certainly something to consider. But Pico and Killington will probably be home for a while...as well as another mountain(s) I hope.

My ride back from Campton on Sunday was about the same time my ride home from boston is each night. The more I think about it what am I doing?:spin:;-)

You have a good deal with a good mountain Jim and some very cool people from what I have seen. I met about 25 regulars in June up there and by the end of the weekend I was treated a if I had been there my whole life. I was surprised I always heard the negitive rumours about the crowd. I saw none of that.

From NJ/NYC, it's 7 1/2 to 9 hours each way, depending on where exactly you're coming from....

Killington is 4 hours...
