Trip Report: Kid was off with the Grandparents for the weekend, so the wife and I figured that since most of our shopping was done, we'd take a few turns somewhere small and close to see just how good a job the surgeon did on my knee 9 months ago. If anyone in the area blows a joint this season, PM me, have I got a recommendation for you!
We started on the newly opened Tom's Treat. I figured that if I was going to take things slowly, might as well go as slow as humanly possible. And despite any reservations I might've had, this was no treat at all. I could tell immediately that I could do more. 3 runs later it was up to Canyon Run. The conditions overall were relatively good. There were very few scratchy spots, and even those had enough soft, loose powder-like substance around them to prevent them from becoming actual slick spots. After a few runs down the Canyon, we moved-on to Nor'Easter. Nope, no bumps yet but that's fine for now. It has slightly more pitch than Canyon Run and it was good to move slowly through the progression. The last run was down Temptor, and again, despite being later in the afternoon, was pretty free from slick spots and skied well. At the bottom of Temptor I hit the dreaded piles of crud that Sevvie mentioned in her report. No problems, thankfully, but I did notice a little tenderness in the knee after the up/down impact of going through them.
All-in-all it was a very successful day. I convinced the wife that I can indeed go out and ski without needing a ride in the meat-sled. Got her stoked for the season, as she is still pretty green, yet followed me on every run and really started to improve her form. And it looks like the conditions are much better than anticipated. Even the typical clusterf%$^ that occurs on Exhibition wasn't a problem. Ready for our weekend up in the Whites this Thurs!
