One of the joys of lengthening daylight for groomers is the chance to be at 4,083 feet for the sunset. Here are a few grooming photos (from last week) for all the snowcat enthusiasts on AZ. Enjoy!

Hmmmm, who's gonna win this battle???

I did that about three years ago on the groomer. Absolutely money well spent. This is what you see this time of year when the sun sets later. Bring camera and video. You may need a parachute going down Organgrinder! Grooming in the dark is a strange experience. Those trails look so different at night. Watching the Winch cat was pretty awesome too.

Amazing shots.

Even more amazing is how much they don't capture - there's something absolutely special about being on night crew and experiencing a quiet sunrise after a full night's work. One of the most memorable sunrises for me was on Christmas day years ago after a night of cold snowmaking...an amazing experience.

Great pics! ...but how true about actually being there = nothing like it.
I love the early am hours outdoors....
Getting the steep goods on the early morning patrol shift, especially after nightly dump, must be unreal.

Winching is definitely a pretty cool process. I've been doing a bit of winching lately, mostly on Cliffs and once on Inverness. Haven't really had a good chance to take any photos... it's usually pitch black, cold, and windy, so I don't feel too inclined to get out of the cat on a steep trail and "conquer" the elements just for a photo or two. But it's definitely a cool feeling to be able to move such a substantial amount of snow uphill on a steep pitch. Just have to remember to have the seatbelt harness locked on the way down...

Thanks, all.

WWF-VT -- Thank you... I will pass along your complement to my colleagues. It's always great to hear feedback from the guests, good or bad.

I'm scheduled for a 2.5hr groomer ride along this Sunday at The Canyons! $95 including a "box dinner" can't wait! They had another option where for I believe $500 you get to do a whole 8hr shift and actually operate the cat if you so choose! My wife would have killed me if I deserted her and the kids for most of the evening on vacation though ;)

I got to do an 8-hour shift last season with a groomer and it only cost me a six-pack of Trout River. ;)

Enjoy the Canyons. We are finally getting some snow here.

They charge you that much $? That is sad. I get some fun rides in the winch cat, and was told next time I went for a ride he would let me drive the winch! Total cost? Nothing.
