....seriously, how much more could the owners, staff and local businesses of our beloved Northeast ski areas ask for?

The resorts have it in their favor this winter with the Christmas Holiday on a Thursday, effectively adding 3 days to the holiday vacation period. It has DUMPED snow the weekend before Christmas and the gas station I drove by today had prices of $1.57/gallon.

The summer into fall with the $4 gas and melt down on Wall Street, the daily bombardment about the dire news of the world economy and massive lay offs.....on and on and on with the bad news

It could have been a total disaster for the ski areas this holiday period. Just imagine given the current economic climate if we were having an 06-07 start to the season (northern Vt was good then I know, but the rest of NE) and $4 gasoline?

You couldn't script a better turn of events given the early fall expectations.......

....let's hope this is a start of something great

Amen to that! This new snow is a blessing for many reasons including saving on the snowmaking budget. Skied Shawnee Peak yesterday and once the storm got going it was awesome! Snowing so hard that you basically had fresh tracks every run! WOOHOOO! Can't wait for tonight. This should open a lot of new trails. :snow:

For us it's supposed to rain on Wednesday and be warm going into the holidays so that could cut down on crowds a bit. People think if it rains one day..all the snow will melt..

I've heard the same regarding the weather later this week.

HOWEVER! There's a lot of white stuff out there; even here in CT. I don't think a bit of r__n is going to get rid of it all. A lot of people are backyard skiers...if they see snow in their backyard, they'll go skiing up north. Despite the potential for r__n, I think a lot of folks will be pretty fired up to go skiing over Christmas vacation.

The rain isn't going to melt all the snow but it will most likely keep alot of fairweather skiers at home..which means less crowds for me to deal with..
