Out of all the things they are going to drop $30M on a lodge? Who's going to use it with shit snowmaking on a small portion of the mountain and those lifts?

Also:

"According to Kelly, the group invested $1.25 million in snowmaking improvements for the 2022-23 reopening".

If this number is true it was the worst spent mill and a quarter I've ever seen. But I don't think that number is close to true.

"We're gonna be the resort that people from the west fly out here to ski because we're gonna be that cool a resort."

Say what now?
Yes and Don Cherry might coach the Bruins again next season...

I have become a Tenney proselytizer this year. I have bored people on lifts, in lodges and apres bars. One thing I always talk up is their simple yet beautiful lodge. It's an all in one bar/cafeteria with really good acoustics for live performances. Why are they putting more money into it at this point? I would "brand" the mountain. Maybe some nice colorful trailmaps at the bottom and top of the mountain. Bold bright signage to mark trails and glades. And I agree 100% with Newpylong. Put real money into snowmaking. Shit, from what I've read, hire Newpylong to do it. Maybe get that other lift working? I do concede that it isn't a priority seeing as how the double is never at capacity but it is just sitting there. I know that my improvements aren't very flashy but they would seem to cost a hell of a lot less than improving a super functional lodge.

My sentiments exactly. I really want Tenney to succeed. They keep doing stuff like announcing a new lodge when that is pretty much the one thing on the mountain that doesn't urgently need updating.

I don't understand how you can spend $30,000,000 on a lodge? For that kind of money you should be able to build a sky scrapper. At least the guy has a plan and at least one season pass holder.

Passed by Tenney on the way back from Waterville a few weeks ago. Waterville was packed. Maybe 50 cars at Tenney and that's probably an overstatement. The wife started calling it Kodiak Valley after the dilapidated ski resort from the Hot Tub Time movie. I'm not sure how you bring people back who have moved on to other resorts in a NH crowded market with lots of strong competition, but I don't think a $30M lodge will do it. I would think better trail maintenance, snow making and lifts would go a long way towards improving the ski experience but hey, its not my $30M. I wish them luck and I really want them to succeed. . Drop Tenney on the Indy Pass and I'll even take a few laps. FYI nobody is flying from the west to ski there. That's just delusional crazy talk.

They should skip the lodge and put in a HS quad along with a new snowmaking system- that would get people excited.

Seems like a $15 million dollar lodge and new infrastructure they could really turn some heads.

Strange move for sure

Do they have a good source of water?
Not the largest pond but good inflow. They pumped a hell of a lot more water during their heyday than they are now. That money could replace every inch of snowmaking on that mountain.

Any operator in New England who fails to place snowmaking at the top of the list is doomed to failure.

1 - Snowmaking
2 - Lifts
3 - Base facilities

I will mention that they may have spent 1.25m on snowmaking plus snowcats, or they may have spent that money partly on long lead items that aren't installed or even present on the property yet. I could see a reporter or manager not making those things clear.

If we don't see at least some old Ratniks up to the summit, plus low energy coverage on the Eclipse loop with a working chair this winter, that is not a resort that can justify a $30m new lodge.

No, for a sky scraper you need to add another 0 to that. ;-) $30 Mil gets you more like a 3 or 4 story building at like 25,000 sf per floor. You have to think the story was mess up in the facts. How would he ever get return on investment.

Actually I find the whole Tenny story strange. Worked with Steve Kelly years ago at a medium size GC in Boston. He has come a long way but I never figured him as a ski area developer type.

1) Extravagant living without a sufficiently large working class to support.
2) Poor snowmaking on Saturday nights.
3) Condos that fall down.
4) Visa restrictions due to plague.
5) Competition from other places.
6) Transport.
7) The Barbarians (file under Mass. residents).
8) High fuel prices.
9) Fat, drunk and stupid. Or not...
10) Worshipping false Gods,
11) Crubling Infrastructure (Via Tenney Mountain).
12) The Mount Ascutney Factor... - not good
And stuff like that...
