I would say, no they don't deserve it. The majority of my friends who ski at Sugarloaf, ski there for one thing and one thing only. The 50 or so chairs that haul them up castlerock. It is no where near 2500 feet.
Agreed. I liked Sugarbush the few times I have been there but I can almost guarantee I would like MRG more.

Sorry, I know you guys all have a hot spot for da bush this year... seemed like last year it was the loaf. Whatever, yeah its a good place I don't disagree. It just so happens that its not the best on the list or in new england.
Next year? Guesses? My bet is Jay Peak. Though I think Jay was so three years ago. Jay or Stowe.

Or a 3000 decent down lincolns throat on Lincoln...
Ehh? I'm intrigued. Though it sounds like a bushwack/ice rink route to me.
Sorry guys, just don't think the 1000 or 1500 feet on castle rock are the best continuous long vertical skiing in the east. And really the 2500 doesnt come from anything but mt. ellen, and well, we all know the goods arent at ellen they are at lincoln. Backcountry is a different story.
It is 1,800 ft. of vertical at Castlerock and is awesome and continious but is a very small area.

PS maybe this poll should have been about continuous vertical in an expert only ski decent...

Yes it should. Then it would be Sugarloaf and Whiteface both with about 1,800 ft. of it with no where else even close. Though I guess Castlerock but it isn't really that steep. Just has really nice trails.

If they arent theyre damn close. The size of the slides area is pretty impressive when you see it for the first time, let alone get in there.

Can't be Stowe - they get bashed for high ticket prices way too much. I think the focus will stay on the Bush just because a lot of people here have passes there.

Huh? I didn't think the slides were over 1,700 ft. of vertical. They are defiantly not over 2,000, right?

1,800 ft., but you have to hike a little to get it all. About 1,500 if you traverse in from the sumit quad. Depending on which slide you want to get to the "traverse" can be a bit of a workout.

In this pix you can't see the bottom 200 or so feet. It's big and the best Slack country in the East without a doubt.

Now thats what I'm talking about. No matter how good rumble or any of the other trails at castle rock are, they certainly don't rival that. Same with the loaf, you get above treeline expert skiing in the east... Like I said before, da bush may be the focus of AZ this year, but it doesn't make it the best!

Greg, that is the problem with these above treeline areas. And or super steep expert terrain that is covered in rocks. All these areas are rock/scree/talus bases so it takes mega snow to open them, hence later in the season, and not as frequently.

I'll throw three trails up:

- The slides, at Whiteface
- The backside, at Sugarloaf
- Tramline, At Cannon (I know not above treeline, but the same idea, tons of rocks on a super steep pitch, with continuous vertical).

These trails are not open frequently, which could be a good or bad thing (something that makes glades and such, like at Castlerock more accessible). If we are going to talk about Expert continuous vertical, we should probably add the slack country off mansfield too...

10 or 11 days last season. When they opened mid Feb. I thought we would have a great run, but rain, freeze, well U know last season. The mind set at WF is to get it open more then they have in past years. They have to be careful cause even in perfect conditions it is dangerous.

Analogy: U a single young man again trollin the bars. U get with the nicest lookin babe you’ve ever seen for a night of unforgettable animal relations. Now that doesn’t happen ever time ur out with your boyz, but when it does you never forget it and, if u the kiss and tell type, stories for years. With the Slides you don’t have to feel quality about the telling,so it’s even better.
