Tele skiing is a lot of fun, even when you really suck at it. The big attraction is the ease of ascent that tele gear provides. I've tried skinning on both tele gear and some of the newer "AT" stuff, and i can say there's no comparison. While the new generation of randonee boots are light and comfortable for touring, the bindings still weigh a ton and make you walk like a rhino in the rut.
Telemarking is a skill every skier should at least dabble with. If you have a true appreciation for the art of glisse, you should try to work a decent tele turn into your bag of tricks. Just like every skier should master the kick and glide on a X-C setup. The old timers could do it all, and that's what made them true skiers.
