Now that I'm laid up with a lame leg, I figure I should start posting here. I'm prabably going to be your worse nightmare, though, because I'm hobbled and stuck in the house. A kid snowboarder struck me in a slow skiing zone at Killington last week. He was skiing too fast with two friends on a rather slick icy intermediate trail and hit me from behind. I left him writhing and moaning in the snow with his friends. I figure my injury is only a soft tissue one, but I have re-aggravated an old Ankle sprain. The foot and calf have swelled up and it seems after 5 days there has been little progress in the healing. This could possibly due to my age, 55. However, since I'm in good shape with strong legs, I don't anticipate any complications. I don't blame >>Snowboarders<< as a group since these kids would be using skiis if they hadn't invented the snowboard. However, I see a lot wrong, now, with skiing at Killington expecially when the conditions are marginal. I haven't had a collision in 25 years so this came as a bit of a shock to me. I think he went down on the snow and his board's edge hit my calf as it is still quite sore. However, there were no abrasions or contusions. I skied a couple of easy runs after this. Then I put an icepack on the leg. I checked with the nearest First Aid Station, and they did not report a Snowboarder admitted there. The more I can avoid skiing with the wild under-thirty croud now, the better. However, I prabably won't be skiing again until February.

Snowglider - welcome to AZ, first of all. Second - sorry to hear you got in a crash and were injured. I grew up about 90 min from Killington and used to ski there as a young adult, but for me it's too crowded and too crazy, so I avoid it. Hope you get better soon, and feel free to chime in here.

Lastly - see your quote above. What, did you give the kid a pop in the yap for crashing into you or was he injured as well?   God knows I've been motivated to smack comeone occasionally.....

Ok, not really, but I haven't made any threats today. Killington can be hazardous. I was up there the beginning of last week. I just found the trails they had recently blown on and stayed with those. Needle's Eye and Downdraft were both good. Sucks about your injury, we have a lot of those around here. Get better soon and get back out there!

I'm not so sure Killington is anymore dangerous than a crowded day at any other location. But what I have seen time and time again is young skiers and snowboarders not looking out for the downhill skier and skiing too fast in the slow skiing areas. My wife was plowed over on Deer Run by a snowboarder last season. I was furious but he was extremely apologetic. I take great schadenfreude in knowing that you left that reckless boarder in pain.

i see people of all ages not look uphill when starting out from being stopped, ski in others blindspots or too close to another person and not look uphill when merging trials. in general, all ages think they are the only ones on the hill.

nice real nice...

Welcome back Beswift

HA! I miss Beswift. He used to crack me up. I did use a big word in schadenfreude, but I am not him. I lack the credentials of not having skiied with the 10th nor did a zipper line down Everest.

Get that injury looked at by a doctor immediately. If it's not your ankle, it could be much more serious.

Take it from me, I was in a cast that may have been avoided if I had it looked at right away.
