Every morning drive to Whiteface starts with U2's Achtung Baby. I make it to the start of "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" when I pull into the parking lot.

When I'm far away from the 'Dacks and "One" comes on the radio, I can pretty much picture each turn in Rt. 86, and I always think of the trees being buried in snow, regardless of the season.

I still find it funny that The Fly was the first single release off that album, and it was a major bust. It took Mysterious Ways for the album to gain a lot more recognition.

True....Though I still remember the first time I saw the video for "The Fly"....I was absolutely floored and thinking "what the hell was that??!!" (in a good way).

You don't find many major commercial acts making a jump like U2 did from Rattle and Hum to Achtung Baby.

+1 on Sirius. Usually something off Octane or Alt Nation. Whatever gets the blood pumping and the feet moving!

Those are good. I also like Lithium, the hair band channel sometimes has a good tune, as did Buzzsaw but that's an all AC/DC channel now (which isn't all that bad, but I miss Buzzsaw).

Goooo...I forgot about Lithium. Great station. Every once in a while I hit up 15 which is classic rewind. (I think) Faction (sirius 28.) isn't too bad either.

Jam On is a staple in my car, but for pure cheese factor, I have to say since the merger, the 80s station has gotten far better with a wider array of deep tracks. And the new 90s station is just a gold mine of the best, awful songs of the previous decade. I caught Color Me Badd and Dino (!) on the way to work today. Tremendous.

Never checked out Classic Rewind or Faction, I'll have to check them out. I must admit that I sometimes tune into Sirius 8 for some 80s cheese, though it's usually too lame for me to stomach for very long.

I am a HUGE fan of Big 80's. Bring on the Paula Abdul and New Kids. I do agree...I get about 15 minutes in and I am ready to die....or peg my jeans and rock out my Members Only Jacket. For me though, not really a great "get me in the mood to ski" channel.

For those of you without Sirius, Siamese Dreams is a great album. James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin are fantastic. Also, if you are into the Ska thing, some Slackers or Big D and the Kids Table get me going. Bosstones are another staple.

Love the music thread!

I pray to (deity) I never have to ride in a car with you goddamn hippies.

yesterday we listened to Fu Manchu, some metal comp with Venom, Judas Priest, Sabbath etc, ...some Brant Bjork, Che (Brant being in 3 of these groups listed), Gallery of Mites etc.

Then on my way home it was Guided By Voices all the way.

Usually headed westward to Kingfield or northward to bc pretty early...AM Coast To Coast(George Noory)... strange-science..UFOs...you name it Show.. Good laughs in the last hour+...and with the lack of heat for the first ~5min...a few laughs works for me.. Just a random mix of Rock, some of the better Pop-Country...noone in particular...

I vividly remember that day, back when MTV played music, watching the "world premier" of The Fly and feeling the EXACT same way.....In '91 everyone was getting into grunge but I was sold when I heard the opening notes to Zoo Station. I always liked them before Achtung Baby, but after that + Zoo TV. No other band mattered. The funny thing is I still feel that way about U2. Achtung Baby is the ultimate drive to the mountain ski album IMO

I second your opinion. Half-Step from that Boston Garden show ranks as one of the best songs ever performed by the Dead.
