Oh he who gives up so easily? How did you handle it in 2004 when the Yanks were leading 3-0 in the ALCS? I'm not buying it.

Too much time left to be celebrating anything. Yanks staff (except for Mariano) is weak and full of holes. Nobody has won anything yet.

Take it from me - there's no hope left. Stick a fork in 'em. The bullpen and starters are toasted and the starting lineup is injured and weak.

When the Yanks were up 3-0 in 2004, I was hoping for a quick end so the pain would stop. It was a once in a lifetime miracle, the best since the '69 Mets.

Yanks look good now, but Detroit and Chicago are for real......

I find that hard to believe, just there deals with there games airing on tv you could buy a few teams.

Indeed...the team and it's operations only might be losing money, but between the YES network, broadcast rights with other outlets, and merchandising profits, the Yankee franchise certainly does not lose money. This is a multi-billion dollar enterprise. And the team itself would not be valued at over one billion dollars (insert image of Steinbrenner dressed as Doctor Evil from "Austin Powers" here) if the franchise was losing money.

On a more interesting note, I'd like to see an expense report showing how the teams who benefitted from the $77 million in luxury taxes the Yanks paid out actually spent the money. After all the small market team's whining about not having a level playing field, what did those teams do with the money? Since there was no rule put in place saying the money had to be spent improving those teams, I'll wager the owners pocketed that money.

Ooooh, I never thought of that, Jim! Great point. I'm calling up Uncle George today and getting him on the case. ;)

The owners of the Kansas City Royals have already admitted they pocketed their share of the overall payouts. There's nothing in place to stop them.

Not surprisingly, the Royals play like it too. And they will only get worse. Their fans should boycott all games and run them out of business.

Old saying: If you give a man a fish he will eat for a day, if you teach a man to fish he will eat for a lifetime.

Knowledge is power, not money.

You all know I have to give you all one last chance at making a post about baseball this season...

Because for you Red Sox fans it's over for 2006. But I do want to thank you for backing the Yanks into the playoffs by losing last night.

And it's over for the Angels too, so don't count on the Yanks getting knocked out of the playoffs soon.

Yankees, AL Eastern division champs for the 9th straight season.

I predict utter baseball boredom for the rest of the country from here on out because we're all gonna be treated to the second subway series in 7 years...Yanks/Mets.

GO NY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may all fire at will.

God, you're right - it will be sooooooo boring. I hate the Metsies almost as much as I hate the Yanks. May have to start watching pre-season hockey.......

When we had the cable hooked up in our new house I had the wife request a high def cable box. Watching YES in high def is truly unreal. I'm really looking forward to watching the Yanks march to another subway series.

I also predict a subway series, with no Angels i cant see anybody beating the Yankess but themselves.. Hopefully with all the new quotes from last months SI article coming out about A-Rod the clubhouse will turn on eachother lol.. Hey all you met fans u better make it to the Series no excuses there is nobody good in the NL this year to stop you.. As for my sox, when they were winning 11 in a row, sweeping the NY Mets right before the all star break, i and many others yankee fans included thought they were the best team in baseball by far. Oh well, id love to use Varitek and a few other injuries as an excuse, ya hes not the greatest hitter but hes the Captain, and most importantly calls the games, but the Yankees smacked them 5times before all that happened so i guess they just folded after that, no excuses.. Ahhh my favorite saying i havent used since right before 2004,, NEXT YEAR!!!! lol

Truly desperate times for you...I suggest you also start drinking heavily.

Let me remind you Noo Yawkahs about our football team....your 2-0 New England Patriots, thank you very much. They'll get us thru the fall and early winter.....

Big props to Ortiz though, missed a few weeks, hit 51, and 52 tonite in that ballpark, being left handed, unreal.. He would easily surpass 60 if he played his home games in yankee stadium or philly..

Ortiz hit #51 off Johann Santana, too, and it was a BOMB over the bullpen. So it's not like he hit it off some nobody. And #52 in the 7th inning was a liner 10 rows back in the CF bleachers. Too bad it's all for nothing this year......

Chile what i meant was him being left-handed, playing 81 games in the Fens, its very hard considering all that real estate in right and center to hit that many home runs, if he played his home games somewhere else he would have alot more..

Oh - I knew what you meant!! I was just pointing out that in addition, he hit it off possibly the best pitcher in the league.

Yup - if he played in Yankee Stadium (there's a horrible thought) he'd hit 60+ every year and some of those would be WAY up the 3rd deck in right.

That horrible thought was almost a reality a few years ago. I agree with you, its not easy to pull a good lefty like santana and hit it over the bullpen in right.
