I personally thought 95-96 was better than 96-97. 93-94 I miissed from January 4th on with a fractured neck.

And maybe things melted quickly at Killington in 00-01, but not up north. I remember skiing off the chin at Stowe in late April.

This all being said, no April/May I can remember was better than last year.

2000-2001 definetly takes the prize for season lng excellence imho

off topic, but in 96-97 at k you could still ski the trees into may. on memorial weekend, the light was still skiable. definitely the best year in my 30+ yrs. 00-01 awesome but melted out quickly.

In May of 1997..Mount Washington received over 90 inches of snow..

1995-96 was the year where we had the Blizzard of 1996..but it didn't effect northern areas...it doesn't matter..mother nature will dish out what she dishes..I'll be happy with a few snowmaking trails early season and some tree skiing later in the season..I just want to ski..I'm not going to be too greedy..

The blizzard may not have affected northern areas, but if I recall the snow at the stake on Mansfield reached 130"+ one of the all time highs

How the hell do you people remember all of this stuff? I'm pretty clear about last season, and then it's definitely bits, and pieces at best all the way back to the delivery room.

No, 1997 didn't make it that hight. Here are 1996-1997, 1997-1998 and 2000-2001: http://tinyurl.com/3bler2. Only 2000-2001 reached the 130 mark (right around end of March/beginning of April). 1997-1998 hit 112 in March.

I remember everything..but I also remember birthdays of kids I went to Kindergarden with..lol..but as for ski season details..that's one of the most important things to me...too bad the day I go on Jeopardy there probably won't be any categories on record monthly snowfall totals at North American ski resorts..Holla

But a peak snowfall for the season doesn't make it the best ski season...The best ski seasons have early snowfall and a short/non-existant January Thaw. 1997-98 had a great early season.,ma major thaw/icestorm...then consistant snowfall and Stowe received 64 inches of snow from from March 19th-25th..but then it got really warm..and almost all the snow melted in a week with walking required on several trail sections to close the season out and only a few inches of natural in April...

1999-2000..there was a three foot dump at Stowe and Sugarbush in November..opening most of the terrain with a few trails reserved for the rope-duckers..ahahaha..then a week later it was back to a few snowmaking trails due to warmth..The east needs alot of natural and snowmaking due to a constant threat of rainfall and warmth to have that great once in a lifetime season...I've read reports that global warming could eventually cause a harsher snowier climate for the northeast due to more warm water in the ocean to intensify nor-easters..but that could also lead to less snowfall for the valleys..and more Sierra Cement type snow(which is great for base building) up high....

thanks for the link. i guess it's apples-oranges. overall some of the years may have had greater base depths than 96-97, but if you check that chart, 96-97 held a 60" base into june. but yeah 00-01 was unbelievable. snow was so deep in julio that we had to do lots of ducking of branches. i'd be very happy if we got 93-94, 96-97, 00-01 or last year without the terrible start.

I agree that a peak snowfall doesn't mean the season is the best. I was just correcting your post. Based on my memory, 2000-2001 was the best season (or at least it was the best for me and the days I skied). I had an incredible 3-day stretch in March at MRG, Whiteface, and Gore. The snow banks coming over the Appalachian Gap were higher than the car. It was incredible. And not a bare spot to be found at MRG. It was also my only time in the Slides at Whiteface.

I'll take a repeat of last year. My best year ever. I got alot of good skiing in 00, 01, and really learned how to ski pow that year. I was working at the Cliff house and my boss would let me ski on the clock until 1 every day as long as I came in to clean the kitchen while he drank and smoked week with the front of the house. It was only my 2nd year with more the 10 days skiing. Last year I was able to take advantage of all the snow and ski the stuff I like with great cover. Can't complain about that kind of season, and some great days in the Kayak in January.

I'll take last year, without the constant warm-ups before Feb.

I want a better season than last year...remember how shitty it was last year the first 1/3 of the season...some places had to close down due to warmth..including Killington the week after Thanksgiving..I want to be skiing on at least 30 trails at Okemo Thanksgiving weekend. Although I'm a northern Vermont Snob..Okemo has the goods for early season due to excellent snowmaking..
