In practice...
I like Jackson Hole.. Just enough Village - funky feeling - real estate in places i really don't car about.. Mangy moose.. Classic...

It's a shame..the building housing Lees Tees and The Village Cafe is being torn down..

yup, and there's usually a lot of dogs, too, they're great entertainment racing around in the snow.

Dogs and "wookies"... :)

It's a good time to buy one of those chairlift "wooks" a beer and get to know them for the next day.. i rode 2 days free using barter...

Im superbummed that the VC is going to be no more. They were the only on-mountain eatery worth a damn (Couloir was pretty solid, but way pricey for the common man). Plus the VC was the only good pizza place in all of Jackson proper, not just the resort. The owner wasnt making anything in terms of profit I heard though, which is a shame considering the place was always packed. Just another victim of Jackson's rediculous real estate problem.

I'm sure he still has his original stores in town. Just get on the shuttle if your staying out at the village. We both had retail places in Pink Garter Plaza in the 80's. Perfect story of a guy who starts selling t-shirts in a little space just off the town square and did very well as Jackson grew. He sells tons in the summer. Wonder if he still sell those hilarius Bear Whiz t shirts?

I don't know . . . Some days I'd like a resort like you describe (good bar, stage for concerts, good transport system), but that's usually when I'd want to go to a mountain for partying as well as skiing. This kind of setup seems like it will draw a lot of A-holes (especially if you throw in the Amtrak).

I think that on most days, I'd prefer a place like Silverton (no amenities, no high speed lifts - actually, only one lift then you gotta hike -, very limited amount of a-holes).

Sounds good, so far. Your forgetting an Amtrak station.

Thank god you aren't an English teacher.

While you're on the grammar kick, shouldn't "god" be capitalized?

Back to the original post, I would give up all the amenities (including great lifts and vertical) to have a ski-in ski-out mountain out my back door. It would be great to take even a couple of runs every day. That's my ideal.

.
Now that's an argument for the ages. Depends if your referring one normally uses the word god as a proper noun or not. I guess in Christianity, there is no other proper name for it's God (like Allah) so it should be capitalized.

Well I'm not Christian, so there's our answer.
