Patrol dropped the ropes on a couple of unexpected trails today, giving us the most miles of open terrain in the East this weekend.

Boyne, continuing to push hard at the river... I love it. And they look like they might be in jackpot range for this storm. Mother nature is helping boyne rock it out. This is a GREAT early season.

As a new skier (4th season) Okemo is my new big find. I loved what I saw last weekend and plan on taking advantage of my Wachusett Pass discount and visiting alot this season. One of the great things about being an intermediate is we're easily amused.
:D Hear, hear! Like I said, I haven't been to Okemo before, but I am looking forward to it this year.

I would argue that the intermediate skier is under-represented on this forum. Maybe not as lurkers, but in number of messages posted. This forum (in my mind) isn't only for the Backcountry experts and advanced. I for one am always interested in an intermediate and for that matter, a beginner's perspective. If we don't keep getting new blood into this sport, there won't be many operating resorts left!

Write on Intermediates and Beginners, let's hear from ya!
I think Greg is somewhat correct about the passionate ones posting (yadda yadda yadda ;)). But there are definitely people here of all levels. Some may be a bit intimidated to post. I know I am sometimes. I also know that in my first season, while I posted trip reports for all the small areas I visited, I always wondered if anyone even wanted to read what a beginner-to-intermediate even thought of those small ski hills. But I posted anyway figuring they may be of value to some. We have to represent all levels... like you said, need new blood. :D

That's refreshing to hear, Bill. I've only been skiing around 7-8 years (whith a 2 yr break in between) and sometimes feel a bit overwhelmed by some of the posts I read on this forum and wonder "should I really show up to an event?" Those sorts of things. Thanks for being so reassuring.
You've been skiing far longer than I have and I don't have any problems speaking up. It can be overwhelming though. I've also worried about going to AZ gatherings because I know my skill level is below that of many of the regulars. While I ski blues and some blacks on the small ski hills, I have to be more cautious (for now!) at the bigger mountains and I wouldn't want to hold anyone back. But nobody says we all have to ski together the entire time anyway. Just nice to have a group of buddies to return to from time to time. :D Sounds like, from what Greg said about your trip to Mohawk last night, you'll fit in just fine.

today top terrain mountains

1. Sunday River
2. Stratton (!)
3. Killington

where did stratton come from?

Jeez. At Killington this weekend, I skied Double Dipper, Downdraft, Cascade, East Fall, Highline, Superstar, Skyelark, Bittersweet... They have nuthin' for novices but they sure are taking care of their core customer base of advanced skiers. It's a far cry from the moronic American Skiing Company rollout policy where they focused on Snowshed and Rams Head leaving most of their customer base doing human pinball on limited advanced terrain.

incredible rollout so far and hopefully they'll do ovation this week. we're seeing trails we don't usually see until january. but looking at the trail report that's about to change as they move onto novice & connecting terrain. how this for excitement:

Look for ropes to be dropping on Blue Heaven in the near future as our world class snowmakers are making snow on it right now.

blue heaven ... get a clue.
