The proper reply to "sometime in January" given the track record, should be "January of WHAT YEAR?"Already admitting not this weekend. But the “sometime in January” is laughable. This is like that “two weeks” joke where a shop/vendor says it will be ready in “two weeks” for six months. But in this case, the “two weeks” has been 3 years.
As drjeff said, I would respect them a whole lot more at this point if they owned up to their issues and offered a solid plan to avoid repeating them going forward. Shit happens, I get it. But when the same shit happens year after year, it’s no longer “bad luck” and people stop believing you are going to do better next time.
At least Magic has built up a ton of goodwill with the lift contractor. I’m sure they’ll stay on this spring to completion.
I'd watch thatI hope, one day, we get the truth on where the blame really lies in this fiasco. This saga could be a Netflix documentary at this point.
Technically yes, should it have been, no. Zero snow made to the summit.Man even Whaleback got their chairlift running before Magic, who can't even guarantee Red by MLK.
O don’t think they could have opened any of the natural today without running a groomer first, and I am generally pro opening things. Unfortunately, I don’t think there was enough to run a groomer down anything without man made snow on it.Yesterday they had good reason to keep the natural stuff closed - was super wet and they didn’t want to move around the base too much. Probably could have dropped the ropes on some more today but what do I know. Guns blasting on UMC “woods” section and equipment is assembled on LMC, looks like that’ll be next up and if I had to guess, Carumba to Lower Redline after that. Temps this week for Londonderry look to be consistently below freezing.
Plus there was weird stuff going on underneath. Not just the ski slopes but everywhere else nearby had these ribs and valleys down the slope on Friday. I can imagine the valleys were more water logged and froze harder. I was studying as these valleys would show the fall line in any area? Deep grooming would be required I suppose.O don’t think they could have opened any of the natural today without running a groomer first, and I am generally pro opening things. I was here Saturday and Sunday afternoon, skiing was good on the limited open trails. sunday afternoons snow squalls were fun. They seem to be really conservative in opening the natural snow trails too many excuses . What happened to putting up a caution sign and opening a few trails for the die hard regulars? And red chair has been stopping frequently seems like it has a mechanical issue. I'm not happy with many of there decisions lately, its probably my last year as a passholder
Agreed. They need to open up lower magic carpet. Not having beginner lift served skiing for MLK is bad. I get it is somewhat self interest for my young kids, but I think that is more important than magic carpet from the summit. It’s not like they added advanced terrain up there. Saturday was actually surprisingly good and better than Sunday.Went out yesterday (went skating and then stayed home Saturday). I was surprised at how much snow was on the hill, which I guess is a good thing, even if didn't open any terrain. I found the conditions to be less than desirable, also surprisingly crowded for one way down. Perhaps it's just me, but I really don't enjoy going out and doing the same run over and over (for isntace, I'd much prefer two options of green and less vertical vs. one summit run). I don't think I rode the chair without someone complaining about trail count. Hopefully the cold weather this week and some natural snow gets us back to a more fulsome experience.
It really seems like they don't know what steps are left...like every new step in the process is a surprise...From todays Alpine Update:
Quad Update: Pfister Mountain Services and Green Mountain Controls have been here this week, with the chair moving at 3/4's speed as they dial-in the drive and tower safety systems. Still more work to do but good progress is being made.
