Can somebody explain to me why all the weird, go-nowhere plots? I still don't know why they spent the entire first episode on the minor character who hung himself.......

I'm thinking that this is a plot device that ties into Vito's homosexuality. The only way to leave the Mafia is either to die, or flip. The minor character (I can't think of his name either) hung himself because he had the financial opportunity to leave the mob and Tony wouldn't let him do it. Vito, obviously can't work along side these narrow-minded individuals so the only option for Tony is to kill him.

...Thoughts?...

Chris and Murmer mugging Lauren Bacall was pretty funny. Stupid, but still funny.

Yeah - you don't see a couple of hoods sock a Hollywood legend every day......her reaction was pretty darned funny, too.

Chris and Carmine Jr are so dumb it's painful (and hilarious). Carmine Jr's pitch to Ben Kingsley was too funny.....

And - we didn't have to see the soft emotional underside of any of the mobsters this week. Artie Bucco has always been one of my favorite characters and I always seeing him try to dig himself out of some new trouble.........IMO this was easily the best episode of the new season.......

I can't believe how boring last night's episode was. I thought after last week they were perhaps getting ready to really take off, but what a snorefest. AJ parties too much and had a panic attack. Tony is happy that AJ is probably too nice a guy to have a life of crime. Tony has a fit of conscience and doesn't screw the hot chick. And watching Vito make out with the biker/fireman/cook up in NH is yucky.............I don't care about this stuff.

I wanna see Paulie and Syl making somebody's life miserable. I wanna see Johnny Sack spinning webs around Tony and Carmine Jr. Was there no fallout after Frankie Valli got whacked last week? Where's Meadow? Who is Janice screwing over today? I'd rather watch the Sox lose to Tampa again......:-(

Sopranoholic here. Last night's episode was great, tho I could have done without Vito and the cook making out on the grass. I thought that AJ almost could have made it to stab Junior, knew he was going to at least try something. And now he has the panic attacks!

I didn't like last nights episode. The Vitto thing is getting old, wack him and get it over with.
With all the gay stuff it's like watching 6 Feet Under.

Is AJ going to end up a wise-guy?

I've noticed that the only scenes that seem interesting (IMO) this season are the ones that have Chris as the focal point.

Why did Vitto shot that guy in the back of the head? Vitto was going back to NJ anyway. What difference did it make if there was a police report about a car accident? I think I'm missing something.

The guy was going to call the cops and report the accident, and the last thing a wiseguy wants is any contact with the cops. Vito tried to get the guy to take his cash, but when he wouldn't.......

Bad: Carmela is now reduced to a prop. Meadow is barely on the show anymore. Paulie has prostate cancer, but that's just more soap opera stuff. Bobby Baccala and the model railroad/engineer hat stuff has to end. The Vito gay thing does nothing for me. Q: why would he miss home enough to go back where he knows he might get whacked? Makes no sense. And Vito actually would take a manual labor job? Again - I don't get it.

Good: Johnny Sack in prison - what a face! Tony forces Johnny to sell his house to Janice and Bobby B cheap, and Ginny Sack is going to suffer the same fate as Mrs. Big Pussy. Janice is making peoples' lives miserable again, and the scene where she hysterically cries as she thanks Tony for the help in securing the house is a classic. I was cracking up. She's such a great character.....

Overall - this episode gets a B. Better than last week, but still not up to former greatness......

......

Gotta be something else to it. They have contact with da Feds all the time and they know they are being investigated by them. Vito got into a traffic accident, what's the big deal? What was he thinking when he murdered that guy?

I think Ginny will come to a bad end too.

I believe Tony paid for the house and gave it to her.

Well, say goodbye to Vito. He sure made a mess by coming back to Jersey. What a snake Tony can be - after Vito offered him $200K as a bribe, he thought about letting Vito back in the family. AJ working construction will be his entree into "the life", I'll bet. And Carm's trip to Paris was nothing but symbolism.

Hit You Over the Head Moment: Phil Leotardo literally steps out of the hotel closet to confront Vito, and later orders someone to turn off the TV when the male bodybuilders are on. He's so obviously over-compensating for his own secret gay life.

The war between the NYC and Jersey families is gonna get nasty. Who's next? Only 1 episode left in this season.......

I liked it better then you. There was alot of action and all the scenes where fast paced. I'm glad the whole Vito thing is over.

I love it when one of the wives says something is a sin.

Even the Carm in Paris thing was OK IMO.

Last time I asked who was next - well apparently Phil Leotardo himself was next. So Philly had a heart attack and Tony tries to get him to see the light. Huh? That won't happen.....

I don't know - this last episode of the season just seemed like a bunch of little stories that didn't really add up to much at all. Meadow's out in LA. AJ is going out with a Latino woman with a kid. Carm gets to build her "spec house" after all. Who cares? Chris is going out with a the real estate chick and doing drugs again, but then apparently breaks up with her at the end of the hour. Were we supposed to learn somrthing from this? It would have been a lot better if Carm actually hired the private investigator to try to track down Adrianna. If that led her to Tony, it would have been a lot more fun to watch Tony try to explain that one. The FBI agent shows up to tell Tony to watch out, but nothting happens. There are too many literary dead-ends and dry wells in this season. I don't care about peripheral characters like Vito or the real estate agent or Phil. What about Janice or Junior or Meadow or Syl or Paulie? Johnny Sack is in jail - how's he doing? How about weird flashbacks with Livia or Johnny Boy? They seem to be missing a lot of opportunitites, IMHO......

I've been watching the Sopranos since season 3, and always look forward to the new episodes, but they started repeating themselves and falling into soap opera-ish stuff a couple of years ago. I still can't figure out why they spent much of last season focused on Vito and his closeted gay life. This is the last season, so it will be interesting to see how David Chase sends them all off.......the new episodes start in April on HBO.

I have to admit that I agree. After season three and the death of Lidia the show has really started to turn south. What I loved about the show was the NON-MOB story stuff. However as the show progressed it became ALL mob stuff. I have seen the godfather - I get the mob story.
Anyway...I'll watch the last few seasons just so I can see Edie Falco act somemore. She is simply the best on T.V.

yeah i've heard that complaint from a bunch of friends who are also big fans, i guess i notice it a little but for the most part the show maintains its coolness in my book, plus its nice to be able to watch for free on regular cable
