hey SB regulars- how do the lifts at south handle the South wind forecasted for Thursday? it looks to get breezy as the day goes on.
Might be tough for Bravo. GH and HG probably ok; one of the selling points of the new HG was ability to handle winds. That being said, 40+ with gusts to 60 (NOAA forecast) may be tough. Guessing they could run VH if Bravo goes down, since it would be a bit sheltered and the new traverse gets you to HG easier

Bad....South and Southeast are the worst directions. Lifts will be down if it goes to a steady 40.

This is my recollection as well that south is one of the worst directions for SB lifts. Pretty windy out there today. I got a couple laps on HG this morning, but it is on wind hold now and I'm not really surprised. The chairs were rocking pretty good on the lower ripcord section. The wind is also already scouring some of the more exposed trails. Sheltered trails like Moonshine were still really nice today though.

No guns going on sleeper. Wonder if they had an issue. Saw a cat this morning moving some welding equipment towards the GH side.

Meanwhile the gunpowder on spring fling was delightful. Also decided to head up castle rock. Well worth it. Only rocks I actually hit were on the entrance to the lift lol.
Pipe break on Sleeper. Unfortunately you often don't know there's a problem with the pipe until water is put to it.

Yeah for sure. South winds are the worst all around. Valley House handles those the best. Looks like HG is off wind hold for the time being.

Because everyone is using every last minute of cold air on whatever trail they are currently running.
Correct. With the warm temp window coming in there would be no sense in switching to another pod/trail. Say like Sleeper. Ball-Fling-Racers take a lot of snow. More now means less later. The rain will not hurt the piles too much. Looks like they shut down first thing this morning.

What is the general consensus on if the natural snow at North would weather the storm better if it was skied on & consolidated or left there natural.
I feel like resorts such as MRG, Stowe, Jay, Snow Bowl, Etc. allow skinning see an advantage to get the snow packed in & that weighs into their decision to let the closed portion of their mountains open to skinners, it costs nothing and is a nice perk for people who don't mind earning turns.

Looks like they're pushing ME's opening back to Saturday due to the weather forecast on Friday. And they'll be closing natural terrain at LP on Friday (not really a surprise).

(Snow report still says ME opening Friday, but the announcement was posted about an hour ago on social media...still not sure why they didn't update the snow report at the same time).

Fingers crossed Friday's weather is not too damaging. I don't expect to be skiing again until January😕 but still, sugarbush is the closest thing to a regular place for me. Skied Stowe Saturday then Sugarbush Sunday and the difference in snow between the two is stark. Still had a bunch of nice runs at CR though...

Had to drive down to Rutland... looks like most of Pico was open best I could tell from the car. Gas so much cheaper, $2.90 instead of 3.17
