The fried chicken from canteen is world class. seriously good and a great deal. They had a lamb shank special one weekend in january that was out of this world and $18. insane. Good tunes to boot.
Corned beef and cabbage with potatoes on St. Paddy's day was fantastic and huge portions. Had enough for leftover dinner 2 nights later.

I would also add Emilys place in the Mehurons plaza. Mostly local people and regulars, good beer selection, food is good and they have music.
Agreed, just don't drive over the speed mountain that is in front of the place unless you have a full-sized pickup. Otherwise you endanger your muffler, etc, as you will bottom out.

LOL you know I never really thought it was that bad in the parking lot until a bunch of people started complaining about it. I guess I am just accustomed to really shitty pavement around my house so I am conditioned.

Between it and the NSB entrance to the other shopping center and a few other bombs by Taste Place, it's a challenge to not ruin your vehicle. I have most of them memorized, kind of like I know when to slam on the brakes on Rt. 100 over Duxbury Gap, as in at every failed culvert repair... I go via Middlesex now if going to BTV.

The bookstore was wall to wall junk the day I went in. He was selling peoples old homemade mixtapes from the 80s which was pretty interesting. Looked liked stuff people gave to him free as long as he would get it out of their houses.

For sure...the place is a disaster, but he knows his stuff and can find any book on the planet, even if it's buried in his store. Definitely an eclectic place....not like Barnes and Noble...

that shopping center punches so far above its weight class. the surly hippie pizza man. mad taco. mehurons <3. a decent enough dispensary. and canteen. also a bookstore or something like that i think?

the pizza guy. so theres one guy in front of me ordering. and he's like can i just get a pepporini slice please. and i chime in, i'll do the same. i just figure he can throw them in the oven together and its one less back and forth, and that im making his life and mine a small bit easier. once i ordered tho, in pizza guys mind me and the random other customer were joined. he kept telling us our combined total. and we're like, no man we're seperate. and he didnt get it. we each happened to have exact cash change, and we just combined our cash and handed it to him. weird guy.
I miss having Pizza Soul in the Sugarbush Village. He's definitely a character, but his pizza is very good. It was super convenient when he was in the village, I would sometimes call in my order after getting off of Exit 5 and it would be ready when I got there. Unfortunately, I stopped going to his place after he moved out of the village.

somehow i went into canteen creemee for the first time ever last weekend. really no idea how ive managed to avoid that for my entire life. had no idea there was a full food menu happening in there, and that theyve been recognized by james beard. i feel dumb for missing out on years of what looks like it may be the best menu+affordable option in the valley. they were also blasting billy strings on vinyl. i wasnt hungry, got a creemee. but noted the food for next time
I wandered in there last fall for the first time and dont know how I have managed to miss their Maple cremees all this time. Looking forwward to them this summer!

Jason is awesome. I still order on the way up and drive to Waitsfield to pick it up before heading up to my condo once in a while.

This weather forecast for the weekend on the other hand I'm not quite sure falls in the awesome category. Josh Fox seems to be the only one putting a positive spin on this. I don't see what he does when I look at NWS plus all the various models myself...

Im headed out after my call ends. jut made it to the 40's at 10:45 at the condo. I am sure it will be good where the sun hits.

The storm on the other hand will be a battle of wills between warm and cold. If the cold holds on for a little while we should see something like 6" total before the Freezing R*&% starts. But make no mistake, the warm will win out at some point. I would think early Saturday would be pretty good........until it is not.

I really can't wait until they decommission that f-ing lift and take it down actually. It's closed because they chose not to open it. That's about it.
I get that the complaining can be tiring. But the second that Sugarbush takes down Slidebrook (they aren't going to do that) their value proposition drops a ton. There's no getting around the fact that it's hard/impossible to call it one ski resort if you have to take a shuttle btw the two areas.

Looks like the crazy numbers for this storm have been erased. Sounds like 4-6ish on the mountain prior to change over and warm up.

Yeah, forecast has been flip flopping like crazy if you've been paying attention. Happy to see at least some accumulation versus straight sleet or rain which it has been bouncing back and forth to over the past few days, we could sure use a miraculous April... The south facing slopes currently are in pretty dire straights, quite bony. Had some beautiful slushy laps late AM off of North Lynx, the rest of the hill didn't really loosen up throughout the day. To put things into perspective MRG had 15 trails open mid week and were able to bump it up to 30 with the recent small snowfall midweek, that being said there's still a lot of snow holding and the basic two week weather outlook looks promising with continued stabilized temps with a fair amount of precipitation mostly on the cold side, nothing mega imminent. Who knows what April will bring, last year was killer!
