Sugarbush Resort

Well here's something we haven't seen in a bit: we'll be spinning both the Super Bravo and Heaven's Gate chairs when we open for the season this Saturday at 9am. (Anyone remember the last time that happened?)
While we do love the Gate House side of Lincoln Peak, we love the views from the summit even more. Especially when it's expected to be sunny and in the mid-30s. Skiing & riding will be down Jester, Allyn's Traverse, Murphy's Glades, and Heaven's Gate Traverse with, as of now, downloading on Bravo. But...our Mountain Operations team is hard at work on the hill, doing everything they can to expand terrain top to bottom.

Yikes. 1 trail from the top, half a trail at the middle and a traverse. With downloading.

Better than nothing I suppose?

That was in line with my prediction if they couldn't get enough time down low to complete a runout...

But again, what an uninspiring initial offering compared to other resorts (although better than GH imo).

Also fascinating that they posted the plan on social media before updating their own snow report...

Thanks for sharing. Happy to see a few new places opening!

This was on FPF this afternoon. Emma the owner was Bartending and serving at Mad River Glen.

Joy Bar and Restaurant Opening Soon

Emma Delphin, Joy Bar and Restaurant • Mad River Green, Waitsfield

Hello Mad River Valley neighbors,
I am happy to announce the opening of our new restaurant, Joy, in downtown Waitsfield in December!
Our seasonal menu will focus on fresh, local produce and meat from small area farms and fresh seafood from the New England coast. We will have a great selection of house made alcoholic and zero proof cocktails, a well rounded wine list and local beer on tap. We can't wait to see you all! Keep an eye out for more details on our opening over the next few weeks.

I like that they led with "We're opening with summit access and two lifts!" -- "The views from the summit!"

I refer to my earlier comment about not wanting to attract too many IKON warriors this weekend with only one guaranteed upper mountain route in play. Call me selfish and anti-abundance agenda if you must.

That said, maybe some ropes get dropped on Spillsville to Lower Ripcord, Birdland, etc. Don’t bring the new skis.

This sounds promising and like something that might be up my alley...

That is a pretty disappointing update. What I don't really understand is why blow murphy's when you could have blown downspout and had Jester and Organgrinder. Also, they wasted time blowing down low on pushover and first time when they should have focused.....seems like a similar situation to last year but just a different trail.

Downspout much longer than top of Murphy's to HG traverse which is all they blew on Murphy's. Not disagreeing with your point, but DS takes a long time. They just wanted to get open to say their open. Their roll out seems a bit ADHD (no offense)

Agree with tumbler that the top of MG is definitely shorter/faster than the length of DS. DS needs a lot. That said, if you're going to make snow on OG, you really should figure out a way to connect it to something. On top of that, I think Murphy's tends to ski quite well on natural snow so I really dislike that they now make that one of their earlier routes to cover.

While I do agree with your point that pushover and first time were sort of wasted production at this point, I still think overall the limited initial offering again shows that their snow-making system just cannot cover a large enough amount of terrain in small windows.

On the bright side, I don't plan on coming up until closer to mid-December, so at least there's some time for them to get more open so I'm not so disappointed about being only able to lap one trail.
