Ok so the $5,000 a day would already be included into that expense on their 990. There are 200 kids max with that pass so call their pass another $200k in revenue.

All I’m saying is the usage cost of $226k is well below what SB / Alterra should charge. I would easily rent the mountain out for a day for $5k and have it to myself. Heck I wouldn’t even require them to make snow for me.
So you would rent Mt. Ellen for $5K months in advance and say a dry or warm winter hit, you'd be good with a green hill?

Management is not going to open the hill any earlier and Inverness is not a great jewel we are giving away.

For those of us who are carvers, yes Inverness is a jewel given away, at least the side that is not chewed up by the race course. You also neglect that Brambles is often closed now too. I'm not aware of any discounts coming my way for every day I go to Mt Ellen and have zero chance to use those runs. What is especially aggravating is they don't even open reliably post 2pm anymore. Either the kids are still on it, equipment is around, or nobody bothered to ask ski patrol to lift the ropes - or as has been the more recent case - "they don't want anyone else on it"

Only we are talking about one trail they get exclusively when training is ongoing. And they payed to get that surface lift installed on Inverness which is what they mostly use. It's not the whole mountain. The early season closure of the mountain is on the Mangement. They do not want to pay the extra staff for the early period when skier visits are not there to justify the opening.

Nobody who has skied here for any amount of time and understands the value of the GMVS community will side with you on this one Mr Glenn.

There are so many other trails and they designate one trail for alpine ski racing. Sunday river does this, Killington does this, Stowe does this, every mountain does this that has a program. It sounds to me that the real issue is that people don't like racing. I have never raced except for the Chez Henri cup but I do respect the hard work and dedication that these kids have. People need chill out.

Also, it is my experience that the grand majority of the full time kids are not an issue. They are serious about their skiing and stick to the program. It's the weekend crew that show up and rip around the hill. I know a few of them and I am not impressed with what they get away with. Just my opinion.
agreed. the green hornets are a menace... when not appropriately policed. kids are kids. I blame this on the coaches that allow such behavior.

I 100% realize that, my point was they're not using Sugarbush's resources.
yes they do... SB groomers, especially the winch cat, are used frequently. This happens when that Prinoth baby winch breaks down. which happens frequently. SB mechanics are often called on to assist with those. Plus the shop time to thaw their cat. All of these things are SB resources used by the school. Albeit SB charges them.

Report them to Patrol when you see it happening. I know many of the coaches and none of them "allow" it and would support kids being called on bad behavior. Give Patrol details (helmet color, ski/boot brand), whatever you can besides the green coat and ask that they follow up.

While on the topic: Free concert tonight at GMVS:
From FPF:

When: Dec 11, 2025, 7 to 8:30 PM
Where: Green Mountain Valley School, Moulton Road, Waitsfield, VT
URL: http://www.PlayEveryTown.com
Pianist David Feurzeig will perform his 91st Vermont concert in Fayston, at the Green Mountain Valley School, 271 Moulton Rd, Waitsfield VT, with local performer Gamal Buhaina, continuing David's tour--a free show in all of Vermont's 252 towns to spread the joy of music and promote environmentally sustainable performance.

In May of 2022, Feurzeig embarked on his Play Every Town project: 252 free concerts in each of Vermont's 252 towns to combat climate change through the power of community and music. With this project David will become the first musician to perform in every Vermont municipality. He will travel in his solar-charged electric vehicle throughout the state, offering free concerts to bring attention to the interrelated issues of climate and community, while bringing the joy of music to his audiences.

heading up to vt tomorrow so I just checked conditions at mt snow killington and sb. For all the snowmaking complaints, kton and sb have essentially the same number of trails/acreage open. And mt snow is significantly behind both.

I'd bet K has far more snow-making trails covered/open with no need to worry about your skis. Meanwhile at SB we'll be skiing more trails like this:

Ugh
As always on RC, stay right, under the chair, until you reach the tower in that pic. Should be ok from there down. Turn placement and low speed are key, and skis you don't care about

Sorry for not going into FULL detail! I assumed that most members would know GMVS doesn't have their own shop and mechanics to work on the "Prinoth baby winch". My point still being GMVS pays their share to use ME for training in many varied ways.

I admit to skiing LP much more than ME these days. So maybe I'm out of the loop. Can you ski Semi-Tough, Semi-Tough Woods, Brambles, and Brambles Woods while the GMVS is in action?
