We did Castlerock today. Good news. There was no line. ;-) I will say that there are many rocks showing. If you like to ski bumps the grand majority was not bad at all. you just have to pay attention. Bad spots....the top of castlerock run is rock strewn. Maybe if you hug the edge you can get by or you have to play dodge ball. Not entierly bad but the new snow hid a lot of rocks. I would opt for middle earth and deal with the jaws the rest is not bad.....until you get to the bottom. The path down to the lift is real thin and real narrow. It will be done after this weekend if it does not snow. I did it twice so that should tell you that it was at least fun.

There was another post on Facebook in the Ski The Northeast group as well with a photo of CR run from someone that enjoyed it and appreciated that it was open. Some of the comments on both this post and that one are hilarious. Some people just don't get it and I hope those people stay far away from Sugarbush.

I appreciated that they had Castlerock open. The middle section of all the runs was excellent. Runout was interesting shooting the pencil trace down around to the bridge, they would need more snow added along that hundred feet to open again. Middle Earth not entirely passable on snow by the end of the day without a quick dip through the woods. Even those complaining about messing up their skis agreed it was their most fun run of the day even if they did not care to do it again

Enjoyed the spring bumps on other areas as well and was glad they were all open, very nice turns as long as you kept your wits about you

Everyone decided to leave today as soon as the rain stopped stopped? But then it started again anyway

Sure beats skiing ice and sure beats skiing Pennsylvania

Well..cr lift is closed but I think you can still get over there from top of gate house?
Snow is good today.
Gatehouse lift broke down until noon..but it's back..pretty good up at lynx..got first tracks.
Skied twist..that was sporty.
Steins will last...in great shape.20240303_113559.jpg20240303_113554.jpg20240303_112606.jpg20240303_112559.jpg20240303_112556.jpg

I'm just not ready for April skiing the first weekend of March...

I skied MRG yesterday and it was excellent. Hopelly there this next storm will overproduce.

Steve
I was at MRG yesterday as well. Weird day. All socked in early in the morning, and then it cleared up for a bit. Around 11:00 the clouds moved in again and it was overcast. Lots of snow on the groomers off the single, but ice patches were easy to find mid mountain and below. A big storm in March would help everyone.

Not to split hairs but it was prety much sunny from about 10 to 1:00 when we quit and went in for a beer. I did about 8 laps on the single and one on the double.

Is Castlerock even really skiable today? And I'm not talking about from a coverage standpoint, but I'm guessing anything ungroomed is like a 100% garbage frozen solid surface. I'd rather have the warm temps and some dirt at that rate....
Was sporty but skiable. Some parts actually great. Lift line was quite the experience yesterday but such a fun challenge.

Yeah I can imagine yesterday was really good with the sun and warm temps. I was more referring to Friday and Saturday with the cool cloudy weather after the deluge Wednesday and Thursday.

Rinse and repeat this week unfortunately. Wish I could've gotten out yesterday.

Saturday we had light rain in the morning and then in the afternoon after 2. The conditions were kind of soft in most places. Furhter back in this thread is my description of my 2 runs on castlerock Saturday. Not bad. Rocks showing was the jist of it.

What a massive bummer. As I said above, it's hard for me to motivate to drive 5.5+ hours each way to ski limited terrain in bad conditions. I've had more days YTD than any season in recent memory and plans to ski a few days in Utah at the end of the month. But the idea of not skiing VT and more specifically SB in the month of March is tough for me to swallow.

Hoping for something to change.

I was hoping to get up there sat and sunday. about to cancel my hotel reservations, possible drive up for a gentlemen's mid morning start saturday before round 2 of the rain starts Sunday. Was hoping for a decent weekend with no rain sat and snow sat night-sunday but the forecast seems locked into rain sunday, snow sunday night into monday. bummer.
