at what point did the thought of having a cigarette become unappealing?
I'm going to go with 7 months...but read on.

I used Zyban to help me quit. Zyban totally reduced my physical dependencies, so all I had to deal with was the psychological ones. You take 1 pill once a day for a week, then you take 2, for the next 3-6 months. They tell you to plan your quit sometime in the 1st 21 days after you start taking it.

I quit after 10. The Zyaban was doing it's job, and when I did smoke (espically the cig with the morning coffee) I didn't feel the "hit" in the chest anymore. At that point, I was like "why bother"

7 years ago, I wasn't skiing, mostly because I couldn't afford it. I made myself a promise that if I stayed quit until December, I'd go out and buy myself a new pair of ski boots (I had some rad 210 K2 TRC Comps lying around). One day in December, while driving on the Garden State Parkway I heard a commercial on the radio for Princeton Ski Shops annual ski show and sale at Giant Stadium. I got off at the next exit, turned the car around and bought a pair of boots.

The first time I went out skiing, I found lost love from my childhood. After my first run, I made a pact with myself to trade tobacco for skis. For life.

So for me, it was 7 months. Sorry for the long winded story. I hope that helps.

Set rewards for your self so the longer you go without smoking, the bigger the reward.

1 day
3 days
1 week
2 weeks
1 month

Write down in advance what your rewards will be and post them someplace where you will see it every day.

Sunday--Playing Sunday Skins Game, then home for BBQ w/ friends and play date for our dogs.

Monday---Build stone wall around new deck we just had done

Tuesday---Golf--mow lawn

Wednesday---Back to the grind

Everyone be safe

Money Saved:
$17,252.81

Intersting stats Root

For kicks i had roughly figured our net savings over 34 years for 2 of us( each 2 packs a day ) with a modest interest return on those savings, and NOT counting elimating Medical bills etc ------------ to be approximately get this : $250,000. Yep a quarter of a mill . Just a very crude ballpark figure but man it DOES add up

yikes! hope that works out for you

Thanks..
I think some people want to see me go but most want me to stay..
My attitude on AZ is pretty much what you get in the real world... It gets me in trouble but it usually exposes something that needs to be addressed...

Each morning, I intend on electronically depositing the money I would have spent on smoking everyday into a savings account and at the end of the year dropping it into my IRA. Quitnet has me at roughly $3500 savings per year, which would be well over half my annual contribution limits.

Celebrating Independence Day by giving up cigarettes, which probably means my other focus for the weekend will be trying not to kill anyone who so much as breathes the wrong way around me.

If monsoon season decides to end, I'll probably play some tennis with J.

DH, wish all the best of luck!!!!! I've quit several times, but always start back up again. Like I've always said, "quitting is easy, not starting again is the hard part". Again, stick with it!!!

You can do it!!! I just quit about five months ago after smoking a pack and a half a day for 20+ years and in retrospect it really wasn't that bad! Best part is that once I quit it opened the door to the all the things in life I had always wanted to do but would have a hard time enjoying, like mountain biking.

Yes, I still think about a smoking a cigarette just about everyday but then I think about the money I'm not throwing out the window and think about the fact that I can actually pedal up that next hill without puking up a lung and the urge suddenly goes away.

Anyway, best of luck! :snow:

I didn't drink for 5 months when I quit. Zyban and alcohol *might* cause seizures

My last cigarette was in 1989. Good luck with that. Quitting was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. It's amazing how addictive tobacco is.
