ALL tickets that are scanned have barcodes...that's why you need the SCANNER. Photoshop won't do it. For places that do not scan I suppose it would work. Can't believe I'm feeding this troll..... I think he's on holiday from EpicSki :lol:

One of the advantages of scanning I haven't seen mentioned yet is direct to lift (DTL) products, which are more convenient for both the customer and the area. DTL products can work quite well if you have fully functional scanning and not so well if you don't.

maybe what some people don;t appreciate is that to run the infrastructure to allow you to ski, it cost money.

Alta's "toll booth" system works great as long as you don't keep the pass too high. (The readers were about up to just above my knee).

Also, here's some food for thought? Is it theft of services if you just ski without having a "forged or fake" pass hanging from your jacket. Like others have said a lot of areas just don't check?

Yes. No pass, no ski. It's private property and when you buy a pass, you're agreeing to use the property based on their terms. It's sort of like trespassing if you ski without a pass (or with a pass that expired earlier in the day).

One other benefit of the computerized scanners is when a kid's parent goes missing. The Mt. can have the scanner screen display "Hold for Ski Patrol" and the missing Parent can be relocated with their kid.
