Is there a mentally tougher athlete out there? IMHO, he is the best golfer there ever was. These guys on tour owe a percentage of their earnings to him.

Altho Woods is a fanatastic talent --------Who's to say ? Altho i'm a big fan of his and he is One of the great one's, The Best ever is very debateable.

By way of example He 'll need to finish in the TOP TEN finishers IN EVERY TOURNAMENT scheduled UNTIL the year 2019 until he reaches Nicklaus ' record of 73 top ten finishes.
BTW -that WAS mentioned TODAY

In addition Remember there has been TREMENDOUS advances in Equipment and a rabbit ball and 460 degree MONSTER size drivers and all kinds of Shafts, Monster size putters and on and on. I wonder what he might have done in the early decades of the game 20's with the equipment then available and the course conditions etc

So IMHO its extremely difficult to make any OBJECTIVE comparisons

He is AMAZING and I think when he's through will eclipse Jack as the best ever. I won't give him that nod yet, but I think it's a question of when, not if that he passes him. That's not easy for me to say as I remember watching Jack as a young kid in the 86 Masters and for a few years leading up to that with my father (fanatical golfer) glued to the TV mesmerized by the man and always telling me that he was the best golfer the world would ever know.

There's certainly arguements that can be made about equipment, but I also think Jack had an easier go of it competition wise. There were an elite few....Trevino, Player, Palmer, Watson, Miller and more that were perhaps more consistently great over a period of time back then than there is now, but now there are 100 guys or more out there capable of winning every Sunday. Competition is definitely tougher.

Different eras though are hard to compare. Most people forget that from age 27 to 30 Jack 'slacked off' some while starting a family, had weight issues and was generally unmotivated. That's 3 years somewhat wasted golf wise during his prime. Not that I'm faulting any decision on his part to focus more on family life.

One thing about Tiger that couldn't be praised enough is the shape the man is in. He went from a scawny guy to fairly Jacked and more athletic. He looks like a man among boys physically on the tour kinda like Lebron James does in the NBA. I think his commitment to fitness is as focused and tireless as his commitment on the practice green and plays a huge part in why he's so good. Mental toughness aside, if you don't have the physical tools, you won't keep like he does.

I agree with alot of your points, i think your missing a big one on equipment and the ball however, there were no 7500 yard courses back then, so in my opinion the technology wasnt that big of a factor, just 10yrs ago augusta was 800 yards less than it is now so i feel the length of courses and height of rough, quickness of greens etc has been up to par to deal with the longer distance of balls, and equipment in the modern era.

I missed the final yesterday due to Fathers day activities, but, what I did watch prior to yesterday only reinforced my amazement at Tiger's athleticism and mental strength.

Go Tiger!

BOTH FLG and DHS make valid points about Woods' conditioning and course length

He's impressive no doubt, we'll see how he fare's as he ages.

Considering that golfers reach their prime in the mid 30's, this should be some good theater.

I really think that the reason there is no competition is partially Tiger's fault and that is money. In the past with the Travino's ect generation, these guys NEEDED to win to make money. Now a days you can be a multi millionaire by just staying in the top 50. Money does not drive Tiger, these other guys, having 2-20 mil sitting in the bank, it might be tough to get up at 6:00 to get on the treadmill.

I say go rocko and go tiger.

This knee thing could be a problem. Three times he has had it scraped. He is going to have to change his swing or he wont make it another 15years.

That said I have NEVER EVER seen anyone drain longer puts on a consistant basis than tiger.

I do wish he would tone down his hip thrusts at the end. Its kinda gay and over the top.

I'm all for Tiger. I want some more immortal greatness, and not some out-of-nowhere dude spoiling history.
