Todd Mountain & Clark Mountain, MA
Date Hiked: 09/26
Trails(s) Hiked: (Mohawk Trail State Forest) Indian Trail to Mahican-Mohawk Trail
Total Distance: About 9 miles including some deviations
Difficulty: Difficult
Conditions: Partly cloudy, dry trail, some older blowdowns easily avoided
Special Required Equipment: None
Parking outside the gate added a few miles to the hike, but overall a nice hike. I must say that Clark Mountain is not worth it - there is no trail to the summit (I bushwacked to it only to find there was no view, contrary to what the park map says). The Todd Mountain views are nice, looking south and southwest at just about nothing but wilderness (you can see the fire tower on Borden Mountain in the distance. Despite there being a lot of people in the base area of the park/campground, I saw absolutely no one once I reached the hiking trail.
Todd Mountain (Charlemont, MA) summit view, looking south over the Mohawk Trail (though you wouldn't know it's there).
A bit northwest of Clark Mountain (Florida, MA) looking northwest at Crum Hill (the highest point in Franklin County, MA).
