Hiked up Saturday. I can't believe how much snow was up there. Places on lower cloudspin had DEEP drifts and I was up to my thigh on the hike up! Did two laps before we ran out of daylight. You could almost ski down to Mid before you had to take the skis off. Real thin down there - good thing I brought the ol' rock skis because I found a couple. Everybody I spoke to was sayin "stick to the road - there won't be enough snow on the trails". Yeah, right! The skiin' was good once you got up to the snow. Waaaay better than the boring road! It was kinda wind blown/crusty so you had to punch your turns to get in and then you didn't want to squish 'em too hard 'cus there was no base so you had to stay kinda light on your feet and in the fall line (which means you got up a good head of speed!). Only saw two other skiers. We couldn't believe we didn't see more. Turns at Whiteface in October - who woulda thunk it? If they start blowin' snow this week I hope they put some guns on lower cloud. I'd hate to see all that natural snow go to waste. I'm primed. Thinkin' K-mart next Sunday maybe.
