I have a familly of rabbits in the yard.I got it fenced in for the dog so the rabbit's natural predators don't come in however the dog doesn't chase out the rabbits.

I was thinking about trapping them and either keep them in a pen or releasing them in a conservation area.

A fake owl might do the trick. I have 2 owls on my property in addition to a hawk family and I've never seen a rabbit anywhere near my property.

Buy the owl with the realistic bobbing head that also spins 360 degrees. I use one of these to keep woodpeckers from drilling holes in my shed and it works great.

I have an owl nearby, I can hear it hoot early in the morning. I think the problem is the rabbits are too big, the smallest is about the size of a squirrel. I'm leaning toward trapping and releasing them in a conservation area.

I have to remember the fake owl idea in case of the woodpecker. Three years ago, we had one pecking away at a pine near the edge of the yard. Presently, I can hear one near our neighbor’s yard.

Rabbits are getting rare around here thanks to Coyotes. They may actually be put on the endangered list here in Maine (New England Cottontail).

Are the Eastern cottontail also getting rare around here?

We are loaded with rabbits, The owls don't seem to cut into the population. Our neighbors lab likes to chase them but doen't catch them and our cats stalk them but they are a wee bit big for them.

Your best bet is a beagle. You will not see much of the rabbits with one around.

We have a big dog, he’s to slow to make a run at the rabbits. My problem is we live on a busy road, with a smaller and hyperactive dog; beagle or a whippet it could get loose onto the road. My sister had a beagle that would dig out from the fence, the animal control officer got to know my brother in law on a first name basis.

Besides, I don't mind trapping, I have not had wabbit stew yet. I had paella (it tasted like chicken).

.... just kidding about the stew.

best bet for stew is a 22, sit on the front porch with it across your lap and scatter some empties about..........

Thats one plan for when my daughter is old enough to date only sub a 12 gauge for the 22.

Good luck trying to trap them we didn't have any until about 6 years ago and if youve heard the rumor about rabbits, it's true, we are loaded with them now.

By the way unlike woodchuck rabbit is quite tasty.
