MONTPELIER, Vermont -- Following last week's snowstorm that spanned the state of Vermont, a one-two-three punch of snowstorms is hitting all of Vermont's ski areas with an abundance of snow accumulation falling well into next week. The timing could not be better as skiers and riders in the Northeast turn to the nearby Vermont ski areas for an affordable and accessible way to let off some holiday steam. The strong Thanksgiving opening all across the Ski Vermont map was an encouraging start of a great snow season in challenging economic times and this statewide powder dump on top of an already substantial snow base sets up all of the ski areas with perfect conditions for the Christmas - New Year's holiday period.
"We'll not only have a white Christmas, we'll be up to our knees by Christmas Eve with three snowstorms worth of fresh holiday powder," said Parker Riehle, President of Ski Vermont. "We've had perfect storms before, but this year Santa has apparently teamed up with Mother Nature and Old Man Winter to deliver three perfect storms in a row just in time for the holidays. As the snow continues to fall, our trail count keeps rising and all of our ski areas are on track to be 100% open for Christmas week."
In a year when many might be cutting back on what goes under the tree, Vermont ski areas will have a blanket of snow gifts under their trees as well as their wide open trails and terrain parks. So, since Santa came early this year to make sure all of our skiers and riders will have an easy and well-deserved ski vacation getaway in just a short drive away, Ski Vermont has decided to send Santa an early thank-you note:
Dear Santa,
We weren't sure – with all the news of the elf-funding crisis, reindeer strikes and some curious visits from Jack Frost last week - - we thought, maybe this year - you wouldn't be able to help all us boys and girls with our Wish-list.
We wondered - - have you checked our list twice? We thought we've played nice and we always watched out – the window for snow.
Well Santa, you've really outdone yourself this season! We just want to say thank you for coming to town early this holiday season - - with more gifts of snow across the state than socks from Grandma under the tree.
And all us boys and girls really must have been good - -because it sounds like you, Mother Nature and Old Man Winter have partnered up to gift the state with a well-over stocking-high accumulation to last us far past the fruitcake and mail-order cheese.
Thank you again, Santa - -we'll do our best to play outside every day and appreciate this wonderful gift you have given us.
Going skiing right now,
The boys and girls of Ski Vermont
P.S. Take a Look at our Wish List now - - - - hope to see you soon!
