I've never understood why Black Hole was rated triple black over liftline at Smuggs. Though liftline isn't a glade, it is clearly a more difficult trail.

As other's have said, the Back / Birthday Bowls at Smuggs is truly where it's at. That in my opinion, maybe be the best 'lift serviced' terrain in the east.

Well, its one higher than two, init? I mean, most ski areas are limited to double diamond, there's no where to go, right? That's why Smuggs has triple diamonds, to give that extra umph.

(But why not just make two diamonds that much more difficult?) Because Smuggs goes to three.

Well there are several signal diamonds (Wildcat/ MRG) that are quite a bit harder that many doubles. I love the resorts that consider a single diamond as an expert run when people come over from resorts like Flatton and think they can ski doubles then are in for an utter surprise, and blow past them on middle earth...lol

I was quasi quoting Spinal Tap, so my post can only be taken half seriously.

There's such a fine line between clever and stupid.

I think Liftline is probably the hardest marked run in the east. There aren't too many other trails where you have to drop mandatory cliffs. Not to mention there is usually hardly any snow on it.

I'm not a big fan of on the trail map glades because any first timer to the resort can find their way into the woods which means more snow being scrapped off and moguls in the woods.
Black Hole is too tight to really get bumped up. It does get scraped off when people get in over their head and scrape off all of the snow by slideslipping a spot instead of straightlining it.

At Blue mountain there are two double diamonds which are both groomed daily..and I ski them them while drinking a beer with my poles in the other hand...so compared to that the Black Hole should be a quadruple diamond..
Good stuff. We could use this guy around these days.

I personally do not really enjoy glades that tight. People stop at every turn, side step or slide and I never feel comfortable about what is around the next corner. Been in there (black hole)once and it was more of a PITA than fun IMO. That actually sounds wrong!

I don't mind tight glades in fresh snow because the resistance of the snow helps you check speed. When they get tracked out though, they just become luge tracks, which aren't much fun imo.
