Anyone ski Tuck's yet? We were thinking about heading up this weekend to check out Hillmans and maybe Sherburne, etc. Anyone know what the snow conditond are like this early in the spring. I will probably post something on timefortuckerman.com and will also probably call up to pinkham, but wanted to see if anyone here has any first hand advice as to whether or not it would be worth it to ski tucks this weekend? Thanks!

Sherburne is on decent shape.. Conditions are changeable - good today - bad tomorrow..

I'm headed up to camp at the Gulf Of Slides - weather depending - this Thursday...

I was thinking that with the amount (lack) of snow this year, that it might be better to head sooner than later to ski sherburne and hillmans, etc, and then maybe head back up later in the spring to get the warmer weather tuck's experience. Has anyone skied hillmans lately??

looking into Tuck's from Wildcat on Saturday, it looks to be in tough shape, too. Rocks and obstacles that are normally buried this time of year were still pretty visible. Keep your eyes on the avalanche reports, but I agree this might be a year to hit it really early. Hillman's did appear to have pretty good coverage, but I thought there was quite the large cornice at the very top.

First hand reports of a a nice cornice on the top of Hillmans... A friend gave me a sketchy report last week... Said is was pretty solid.. Right Gully in the bowl may be the call for the weekend...

Coverage as a whole seems average to me...

Always check in for avi conditions...!

I too was at Wildcat Saturday. Quite worst conditions all year. What a difference a week made. As for Washington, it seemed even near the summit you could see some rocks. I always remember it being completly white

yeah, Wildcat was pretty poor. I seriously contemplated running home, grabbing my bronze pass and going to Attitash. If it weren't for the huge cloud that was sitting behind the mountain blocking the sun until about 11:30, it might not have been bad, though. The best runs of the day were Lower Catapult, Alley Cat, Cheetah and Wild Kitten. Problem was, you had to take the Bobcat Triple to avoid the crap up top. 7 minute chair ride, 2 minute run.

The most troubling thing was seeing runs at Wildcat that normally start to bump up nicely this time of year either with no snow or so little snow it can't bump up. Just a tough, tough winter. I think we all got our hopes up after that 5' dump in October. I know I did.

Unless we see some significant new snow(which can come in small amouts over several days) or a significant warm-up I would expect conditions in the Ravine to be pretty rock solid.
I agree Right or something on the right would be better if the sun can get to it.
But sometimes you can be pleasntly surprised so I would still go and just hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
Left Gully could be good if some fresh snow blows in but check the AVI report and try to physically talk with one of the Rangers up there and tell them your plan then ask for some advice.
If it's crap then just make it a nice hike and photo op!

Well, I called up to Pinkham and was told that although right now would be good time to ski tucks, hillmans, sherburne, etc...by this weekend the temps are supposed to drop and everything will probably end up being bulletproof ice all weekend. We are gonna keep an eye on the forecast and if things look like they are going to be warmer than forcasted right now, maybe we'll head in. The person I spoke to at the AMC also thought that this year it would be better to get there earlier than later. Thanks for all the input so far everyone..

yup, sounds about right. looks like temps will fall and the wet snow will freeze solid. definitely check the avi report if you go, especially if they get new snow on top of that frozen layer  definitely preferable to wait until things get into a corn phase, imo. i may be up next weekend for GoS, depending upon weather and conditions. i think i will definitely be skinning up but not likely skiing the gullies yet.
