Trails(s) Hiked: Brook Trail & Part of Tumbledown Ridge Trail
Total Distance: About 4.5 Miles
Difficulty: Moderate
Conditions: - Mostly Sunny - Upper 70's
Trip Report: - Had a great day climbing Tumbledown mountain. Went up the brook trail. The trail mostly follows Tumbledown brook. There are some great sections of the trail where you are crossing and climbing steep sections next to the brook. The brook had quite a bit of water due to recent rains. Very pretty and fun. The trail ascends moderately for the first mile and the last half a mile is fairly steep climbing with hand and feet climbing during the last ascent.
I think the state of Maine has taken over tumbledown recently and they have new signage as well as an outhouse at the start of the trail which came in handy. No litter to speak of so good job by the hikers keeping things clean.
After relaxing a bit at Tumbledown pond we took the ridge trail up to the East peak. Great views of the countryside and Webb lake where we were camping.
We had kids in our party ranging from 5 years to 12 years old. The brook trail is a good way to get them up. The pond gets fairly busy but it is a stellar setting with the surrounding peaks and countryside.
