I wish I could ski, the Bush says it will be open, but I'm heading over 3 mountain gaps to partake in the gluttony at a friends house. Who's hitting the road, what are your fav stuffing, sides or dessert recipes? Does anyone still stuff their bird dispite all the whoopla against doing that?

My wife makes a very simple stuffing and always stuffs the turkey. I've had stuffings made with sausage, and apples, and mushrooms. I've had wild rice stuffings. I've had corn bread dressings (which I like very much, btw). But my wife's stupid simple stuffing is the best I've ever had. Sort of ticks me off cause it's so simple. Otherwise, nothing really out of the ordinary -- always good though.

Big day in my WASP(white Anglo Saxon Protestant) family...

Better to miss Christmas then Thanksgiving..
the last few years I've been doing the Macys Parade thing... this year I'm just going to spend the whole day with family...

I will slip out and drive home to ski on Friday...

I cook so missing Thursday is a big no no. Choosing whether to grace the folks at the resort or my family with my presence is a tough one, but since my parents did support me all those years, I'm obligated.

I mean, it's Thanksgiving, mang. One day where I won't feel bad about gorging myself and then passing out on the floor in front of the woodstove.

passing out on the floor in front of the woodstove.

I don't know why, but sprawled out on the floor always seems to be the most comfy position after the amount of food I shovel down my throat. Turkey is good and all, but pass me those sides!

One word: Turkey Gravy. Okay, that's two words...

I love the gravy on Thanksgiving - it's makes it easier to choke down all that food. We always do double duty on T-day. We usually hit my sister's for "dinner" around 2 pm and then my in-laws for another one at 6 pm. The amount of food consumed is rather obscene.

In Maine the kids get the whole week off or least in the school district my kids attend. Is that the norm everywhere else these days? Personally I think it's alittle much.

For me Thanksgiving is more than just one meal, after TD I look forward to turkey enchiladas, turkey sandwiches will all the trimmings and my favorite, turkey a-la-king. Yummo

We're trying to avoid double duty holidays these days, gets to be too hectic. We usually still have to drive around to a few places on Christmas though. Actually I guess we're going to swing by my Mom's for 'desert' on turkey day this year...
