Some of you may have noticed that I have posted a "few" comments on my desire to sell my house on LI, NY and move to SLC. Despite the "slow market" in my area we made a deal with a buyer today. In fact, if all goes according to plan, we are shooting for a closing date of around Nov 5th. They want to get in (corporate relocation) and we want to get out (Think Snow!!!!!). More importantIy, the buyers appear to actually have the $$$$$ to close the deal. I just may make most of the season out there yet.

You don't say, I haven't noticed :)

I'm happy for you, hope all goes well and looking forward to getting some turns in with you in Utah!:daffy:

Any idea which part of Utah you will be looking in for a house?
Good timing! By the time you get all settled in, ski season will be starting! :daffy:

Utah Plans

Hi Andy. At the moment, we are looking in and around the Sandy area. As much as I love Snowbasin up above Ogden, house prices there are actually rising due to some major resort development plans that may put an additional resort up above Ogden on the face of the Front Range, so we are looking at areas south of SLC near the entrances to LCC and BCC. Actually, we plan to rent for at least six months to make sure we really want to stay there, and to see if the "slow down" in the real estate market nationally will work to depress prices out there. If that is the case, we will wait to buy. If a really good deal pops up, we will be sitting on a nice pile of $$$$$ and have the ability to make a deal with someone looking to leave the area.

With housing going the way it is, I think that's a good plan.

Congratulations.

Ever since my first visit to SLC, about 10 years ago, it has been my dream to relocate there but my damn career keeps getting in the way. The climate, the recreational opportunities, the city, the friendliness of the people, etc; its a special place.

Congrats and hopefuly Ill follow you out there in the next few years.

Look in "Western North America." There are some really great "welcoming" folks who ski and post out there. I am so looking forward to taking them up on their invitation to ski and hike with them. Since I am retired (5 years already) career issues don't exist for me. Assuming everything works out for me, I will be looking forward to meeting some AZ'rs making trips out there and making some turns with them.

Wow, it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. As a teacher, I've always looked up to you. You better not be a stranger!

Wow, what a nice comment!

I'll keep posting here on AZ and here on:

I will definitely be on the look-out for any of you guys coming out to UT and as always, try to answer any questions I can about local conditions and facilities. BTW, once I am settled there, I plan to make some extended road trips to places like Jackson Hole, Sun Valley, Purgatory (Durango Mt. Resort), Big Sky, and Steamboat. Most of them are not much more of a drive from SLC as Sunday River in ME is for me now from LI.

Kissing Up?

Hey hey, don't get fooled by his kissing up to you! I've been at it a lot longer! :)

Kissing up might involve buying me lunch at the John Paul Lodge (look here: http://www.snowbasin.com/winter/john_paul_lodge.html ) just before we take the tram up to the top of the 2002 Olympics Men's Downhill starting point. You know, the first 500' of vertical with a minimum slope of 45 degrees! That will definitely burn off your lunch. After that, we can take some nice tree runs that start after the first drop. Just don't fall head first into one of the pits that tend to form around some of the larger pines because their branches deflect the powder as it comes down. BTW, don't forget to check out the Lunch Menu in PDF format. on that page.

Westward Ho!

You keep on pushing Snowbasin so much, gues I have no choice but to check it out this season :)

No doubt about it. It is a truly beautiful place with some excellent and diverse terrain. If I'm out there when you make a trip I'll show you around.

Congratulations Peter! Don't be a stranger here. You've been really helpful to me when I've asked for info on UT skiing.

P.S. Would please adopt me and my wife? Please, please, please.

Sorry, I already have "grown" kids who are planning to visit.

congratulations! After visiting the Ogden area this year I too have been dreaming of moving west. The Ogden Valley is pretty pricey right now due to the Ogden expansion plans so I'll keep dreaming for now! Have an exciting and fun trip out! I'll be there for two weeks 1/27-2/10..who knows..maybe I won't come home and just stay there! ha ha ha

Maturity?

Bummer! Not the answer I wanted but not unexpected. Would it help if I said neither of us was fully grown?

Hell, regardless of my chronological age, I'm not even "grown up." According to my wife, "grown-ups" don't: "..throw themselves off mountains in freezing cold."
