Thaller1 has a point. On our first visit to UT back in 2000 my son and I did four days and it did not snow! So, powder stashes were slim pickings and we got to ski a lot of groomers. The steeps at Solitude can definitely pull your ears back if you let it run. Also, the first time we skied Snowbasin the first 500' of vert off the little tram (It was the start of the 2002 Men's Downhill) was also groomed. It too could pull your jowls back pretty good if you opened your mouth. Regardless, I liked all the areas so much that I moved out here this past March. I now live about 20 minutes from Alta and Snowbird. SkiDog is a bit biased since he too moved out here this past season. Can you blame him? Think Snow!!!!!!

Hi tirolerpeter, hope you're enjoying UT! I suppose you haven't changed your mind about adopting me and my wife? It boggles my mind to think that racers would skate out of the gate, tuck, and point em straight down at the top of the mens downhill at Snowbasin. Someone there told me they were going 70+ by the time they got down by the John Paul Lodge.

The trees at Brighton are by far the best of the three. benn there about 5-6 times and everytime I find myself going back to Brighton to hit the trees. If you wan to take a drive head to Powder mountain especially a day or two after a storm, usually people head to the better known mountains and Powder hold freshies for days to come, and you can't beat 5 dollar cat ride to there back bowl.

I can also tell you that there is no lodging at Brighton, so I wouldn't even both looking.

Thanks all. Good info. I'm absorbing it all. Pulling the trigger tonight on flights for early Feb. with frequent flier miles. Want to lock that in and take more time on the lodging. Keep the comments coming.

I wonder that everytime I hit it. I'm going slow and making careful turns, and wondering how the hell you can get the nerve to point them straight down that thing.

Hello there RISkier! Yes, my wife and I are enjoying Utah. She loved the the hot dry summer and we are both finding the people really friendly and welcoming. We have purchased and moved into a gorgeous home not far from both Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons. Our kids (two sons and their wives, and our daughter and her significant other) have already made "reservations" for one of our three guest bedrooms. All our new neighbors have been very helpful and we are attending a "block party" tomorrow (Sat 9/15) where we will no doubt get to meet even more people. We have also had a chance to socialize with some of the AlpineZone, and FirstTracksOnline forum members who have previously made the switch from the east to the west. PM me if you decide to make a flight out here and I will try to "hook up" with you for some slope time.

tirolerpeter,

Good to hear you're enjoying UT. Won't be long till you're enjoying the fresh powder. My wife and I are tentatively planning a UT trip in mid March. If the tentative plan works out we'll be renting a large condo with a group of folks. Some are very good skiers. My wife and I are just intermediates who aspire to improve. Would be great to meet you. I'll PM you if the trip works out.

Don't sweat it. There is terrain enough for every ability level to enjoy. I look forward to meeting you when you make the trip. When you are ready, let me know and I will PM you my local contact information.
