I know that I'm jumping on board this thread quite late (I've been slacking in my message board perusing), but feel free to PM me if you need any more info. I just moved back East from Salt Lake this fall, spent two winters out there, including one doing PR for Solitude. (Ski Solitude! Do not get a case of LCC-laziness.)

I skied Alta and Solitude both years. Definitely missing it now.

Alta & Snowbird have the best terrain in Utah from what I've seen (vs DV & Canyons). Unfortunately, the secret is out and everyone and their grandmother will be there on a powder day. Still plenty of fun to be had. Just don't expect run after run in fresh powder. Run after run in cutup is still pretty good!

There's nothing wrong with the Canyons despite what others have said. Problem is, you need to learn the place to avoid the horrible runouts - I'm talking push yourself flat runouts - and that takes a day or so. There's a lot of tree skiing and with good powder stashes. Nothing too steep that I found, though.

No one has mentioned Deer Valley. You'll have the woods to yourself and the groomers are perfect. Once again, nothing that steep except for one area of chutes. Best bathrooms and burgers anywhere.

Thanks, I was thinking Solitude or Brighton for Saturday to avoid crowds at Alta and Snowbird. What's your opinion on this?

In my case I'm staying at the Best Western in Sandy. This package includes tix to Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, and Solitude. I'm only going for 5 days, so that's why there is no mention of other resorts.

However fleeting the moments, you have to be grateful for them when they happen.

Well said! Most of the great moments are fleeting, which, in some respects, is what makes them so treasured.

2 guys who obviously get it.

Brighton or Solitude or just about any place, you can't go wrong. The only place I wasn't impressed with was Deer Valley. Like someone once said "just go there, you'll see".

Met up with a local there a few years ago. He led us into the trees high up to a run called Dynamite. Scared the hell out of us. Super steep, 6 inch wide cat track. I thought my wife was going to die. Of course I had to do it twice.
