Anyone else just sitting back and wondering if what's going on in the world of Vermont ski area operations right now is really happening or if we're just dreaming :spin: I mean, Mount Snow has a 1 week lead on daily operations over ANY other Vermont area, and just about EVERYONE is RAVING about Mount Snow. It's Killington's opening day and there's very little, if any POSITIVE buzz about it. You really haven't heard anything from Okemo yet. Even way up at Jay you haven't seen very many reports about early season hikers skiing on glorified frost.

It's become bizzaro Vermont!

Well, Jay has never really opened early. Nor has Okemo. And if you were looking on the weather reports, we got a good slog of rain yesterday in much of the state.

With the price of gas, energy, and labor, making snow is even more of a gamble for the resorts and they can't afford to lose any of it.

The cold weather is only recently coming...

That said, Sugarbush, Stowe, Killington, Jay, and Snow are open this weekend. It is snowing and cold in Central VT. I'd forget about the week that "might have been" and grab my sticks and GO!

agreed. I'm still in awe that Mt Snow, about 25 miles north of the Mass. border, was the first to open. And it wasnt a gimmicky type thing. Great coverage, top to bottom and a bumped run on the north face. Unreal.

Well, it's a bit too early to say what the conditions at K are like, no? They've only been open for a few hours. The effort by Mount Snow wasn't surprising. We all knew they were going to hit the ground running. It should be interesting if they continue that approach in coming seasons.

Konditions at K? I heard they are arresting people for not putting safety bars down today. Also reports that there is a $20 minimum you must spend in the base lodge on f&b. They also have speed traps setup on all the trails. Anyone caught exceeding 13mph is given a $500 citation, payable directly to Powdr corporation.

You are correct, sir. I've seen evidence of them strictly enforcing all of this on the Web cams...

That must be some cool web cam. It allows you to view into the base lodge? ;-)

Yes it has. so much change occured over the summer that it was inevitable that things would be turned upside down. almost literally when you consider the latitude of the first vermont resort to open.

Nah man I heard they are actually shooting at the safety bar offenders to teach them a lesson, no safety bar = death. My friend's uncle's goat breeder caught it all with his helmet cam that he was streaming live using a satellite dish strapped to his back.
