The second and final installment of the VT jaunt: My quest to re-snag the VT peaks on the NEHH list in order to get my NEHH in 10 month goal!
Saturday 4/21:
I started on Saturday with Mansfield, I climbed up the ski slopes starting at 5:00 AM. The whole trip took a little under 3 hours, views were spectacular (‘Dacks and Whites). Temperatures were perfect! The slopes made for perfect glissading conditions!

It took an hour to drive to Camel’s hump (and its not even that far away!), I was the first person on the trail (Monroe) that day. I ended up having to break trail for the last mile (I was not happy about that). This trip was a definite slog! But it was worth it because the Views were priceless! The haze had cleared up so you could see all the Whitecapped Peaks in the Whites and in ADKs no problem! I got a nice panoramic picture (stitched) too. On my way down I encountered approximately 40 barebooters and 2 snowshoers (mostly college age) climbing. The barebooters packed the trail nicely!

Finally, the last peak of Saturday: Mt Ellen! I started at the baselodge of the Ellen section of sugarbush and followed the snowcat tracks up. There were several skin & ski people making their final run of the day when I started my ascent. I did meet on skier climbing up at the same time as me and we climbed together most of the way. Views had degraded slightly but the 1,000,000$ shot of Camels hump and Mansfield (which from that angle look almost exactly the same except Mansfield was White Camels hump was… umm Spruce.. Another find glissading descent!

All in all 8150 vertical for the day! Phew haven’t had that much vertical in a day for quite a while now!
Sunday 4/22:
I joined Tom Rankin, Laurie, Pamola and Friends for a few smaller S. VT Views and Brews Hikes! Pictures/reports are below:

Maple Leaf in Wilmington was closed (renovations until 5/17) But McNeil’s in Brattleboro was definitely open! Good times were had by all, we had enough people to basically have a sampler by having different people purchasing different brews!
