Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett Mountain, MA

Conditions: Spring... Sunny with temps in the 50s

Trip Report:

Well... it's over for Wachusett after a day of pond skimming, food, and a band. Absolutely beautiful spring day and they attracted a very good crowd for the festivities. I watched almost 2 hours of the pond skimming. Fun stuff. Also had a cheeseburger for $2.75. They also let bronze century pass holders ski for free today. Good deal there. Now... for the last Wachusett trail-by-trail till November:

Conifer: Probably the best overall conditions. The narrow area at the top was all slush all day and there were a few more slushy spots later on but the coverage was awesome on this trail. Sad to see it close with so much snow.

10th: Spent most of the day on this one hitting the bumps everytime. Not the greatest lines, but you can't beat spring bumps, especially on a set that is notorious for being all ice all winter. There was a slush patch up before the bumps and a few bare spots towards the bottom, but things were still looking good here.

Smith: All beat up. Everything before the steep was slush, dirt, rocks, and everything but snow. From the steep on, things were better, but still quite a few bare spots. Polar was in full speed with a 5 chair wait max... ski on most of the time.

Hitchcock: Started off really crappy, but the rest of the trail was very nice. It was practically untouched because the crappiness of the beginning was visible from the lift and most people skipped it.

Look Ma: Only 2 jumps and a few rails were left and no park pass was required. The pipe was probably the best its been all year. There will be snow on that thing till June.

Challenger: Good snow the whole way. They were racing most of the time but the left side of the trail was open the whole time.

Ralph's: A few bare spots and slush spots, but still very good. Minuteman had a bit longer line than Polar at some points, but was usually ski on.

Well, Wachusett is all done till Black Friday. I'll be at Sunapee Thursday, then I'm all done.

Surspring that they're done. I always assumed WaWa goes into April a bit.

Zand how much base do you think is left under those moguls? Last week it still looked like 3-4 ft. Hopefully they will last another few weeks so I can continue my week night Wawa trips.

They should be good for a while. I'm also surprised Wachusett is already done. If I were them I would've at least gone to Easter. The state makes them shut down by Friday the 13th, but IDK why they wouldn't want the Easter crowd.

Weather this week looks bad.

Probably don't want to risk losing $$$.

Just did the closing day thing at Burke today. It was  sad. I was the last guy on the lift for the season...at 4:00pm exactly. They let me in the lift carrol, pulled the rope behind me, and said, "when you're ready." We parted, I got on the lift, and we cheered one last time.

Took a very long run down. Last guy off the mountain at about 4:30 or so.
